Default What's my AU Worth?

I'm blinded to the truth by my love for my AU, so I turn to you my fellow AU troopers for your serious estimations. Here are the facts:

June 2000 AUII Ford Falcon Forte Sedan (rego cert says 'S pack'?)
Factory Tickford Dual Fuel
In-date Gas tank with newly reco'd Vialle converter
Automatic, regular I6
731,000klms
16" Fairmont wheels, nice and shiny Regency Red respray
Stock in every other fashion, apart from some colour codings, AU3 skirts etc
0 problems mechanically. A mechanic would list nothing to do on his work sheet, would pass any roadworthy.
Generally few paint & panel blemishes, in keeping with an average to good example.

Not looking for fire sale prices, but not looking for 'tell him he's dreaming' prices either.
Your thoughts?

$1000-1500 at best.

The Kay's will scare of most people, and the ones it won't scare off will want it for virtually nothing.

I think nstg8a's pretty much hit it on the head there.... Those Kms would scare off most ... I think you'd be lucky to get $1500 for it.

well sorry to be the one to say it but with 731,000KM, 13 years old and a base model (or S as it may be) it's worth $500. Maybe less.

I just bought a Fairmont (AUII) with 180,000km, good condition, dual fuel 10 years on tank, runs beautifully and has BF Xr8 rims, and a HAWK WING! (gotta be worth heaps alone!), pink slip ready to rego. for $1500.

I agree with this bloke.

I personally wouldn't pay more than $600-$700, but I'm a tight bum, so perhaps $1000 at best.

It dosent say if its a x taxi, so can it be worth a little bit more than a x taxi? Say $1500 - $1600 taking into account some nice little additions?
(16" Fairmont wheels, Regency Red respray, colour codings, AU3 skirts etc)

cheers, Maka

the truth, it hurts, it hurts

I dunno about other states in oz but in QLD, you just don't buy registered cars for less than $1000.

I also should mention that it's got almost new Goodyears all round.

Yes it was a taxi from late 2003 to mid 2006

I think it's the rego which is worth the most with this kind of thing.

Sad part of life.

Quite so - and it's the cost of rego on a car that takes me more than a month to consume a tank of fuel that's making me consider selling it!

why not just cash in the rego, flog the wheels (and sell around the fact the tyres are new-ish), then put the panels etc on ebay, part out anything you can, and make the worlds smoothest yet worst balanced go-cart with the engine?

you'd probably end up with a bit more money!

and yes i know it sucks

(i sold an EL Ghia V8 for $1100)

Depends on how much reg is left on it. 12 months reg in Victoria for a car like that would be about $600, throw in a few hundred dollars for the car maybe? $1000 if you're lucky.

rego costs in victoria for light vehicles are based on the TAC premium in the garaged location, not to do with the car itself. Also current rego in the eastern suburbs is over $700

Imo rego is worthless if it doesnt come with a rwc. Patibg the rego is easy, getting a legit rwc on a 700 thou kay old au may not be quite so easy.

I agree with the Professor, you might get more for parts than as a car, Wheels, LPG system.

In the end it's worth what someone is willing to pay for it. I just sold off a 'lane with nearly 300,000kms on it with noticeable rust and shot shocks for $1500. They were happy with what it represented - easy to maintain, easy to repair and hassle free motoring from a quality vehicle. What's the worst that can happen if you bomb it on Gumtree or Carsales for three grand?

And that's what I'm considering. I've got the patience, it's got 9 months rego left, i could get it to pass a legit roadworthy, so perhaps I just play the long game? I'm not gonna trash it for $500, I'd rather give it to someone I like than see someone I don't slaughter it.

It wasn't a blue one with GT wheels on the rear, a timber GT dash, a 90's Ford black rear-vision mirror, a small dent in the front of the L/H guard and a bolt through the front bumper was it? I put a 2L in my first car is all and eventually sold it to Bedrock Motors in Preston for $300. Can't be that many 2L MkII's...

Na it was bought as a very rough orange 1.3 2 door with a 2 litre fitted and rallypack front spoiler.
The tank was too small for the 2 litre and so was the trans tunnel.

I bought it around 1990, did some rwc work drove it and then sold it in 93.

P platers these days dont know how good they have it. But i still wonder how they finance these new and late model cars.

Mr Hardware, surely if you can offer it with a roadworthy and some rego - with gas it has to have a $1500+ market?
