Default Spotted a young white deer and caught it on camera.

I was on the way home this evening and spotted a white animal off to the side of the road.
I turned around and went back to see if I could get it on film.

I was a young white deer (I have never sen one before) and I managed to get within about 50 meters.

I have photo's and video from my mobile, I just need to work out how to get it off the phone.

Are these things rare?

Was Juile Andrews close by??? :

You would be better off getting a picture of a Tasmanian Tiger, but I reckon that a white deer would be quite rare.

very common here in australia, they are an introduced species. normally for deer farms, or when settlers first arrived in austrlia along with rabbits and foxes. there are now many species here aswell, fallow, red, rusa, hog, chital just to name a few.

going by this photo of my back wall at home id say they are very common lol. these are few dad has taken over the years.

edit just realised you might of been talking about a whitetail deer, common in the US, not sure ill ask the old boy.

Have an answer for you matey ;)

According to our illustrious Post Master this is not an uncommon site, there have been a few sightings by some of the more legitimate locals out here in MBFNW. He states that a feed of one a long time ago was rather delish :P

Legend has it that they were released into the scrub when farmers were no longer able to afford feed them or their properties had gone belly up in times gone by.

At a guess, we will see more of them as they search for food after the fires

Hehehehehe ... problem solvered :P

Ha ha.

I have seen ordinary deer ever before the fires... mind you only about three sightings over the 2000+ trips through the 60k of scrub.

I have never seen a white deer before (note this is a WHITE deer, not a white tailed deer, it was white everywhere)

Count yourself lucky you havent come across one... I live in Gippsland and up until fairly recently was driving an hour to and from work everyday. The drive to work was ok-7am not many around, the drive home however was a different story. On average I think I passed at least 1 deer every 2 or 3 nights, there were at least 2 a week. I hit one in my AU XR6 Ute ! He was HUGE and was killed instantly, unfortunatley so was the ute. :
