hey guys...just came across this on carsales...looks like a good car...but the amount of km's done and the price...dosent sound right...what do yall think?

I dunno. I have seen an XR6 ute with lots less k's than that on it, and the price of au's these days isnt too crash hot. Im unsure on this one.

Seems reasonable I would think? Low K's higher price? Manual in black.......prob little high but not unreasonable? Sold my AU Ghia with 85k on clock for under 10K......AU's not huge in the price stakes.

A beauty like that should be going for around 18-21K. Who knows... it could be a genuine bargain

Ask for service records etc.

price is pretty low, as said before id expect 15-19 for this one, S2 and 3 AU's demand a much higher price.

They’re obviously not the original number plates if it’s a 2001 model. It could have had personalised plates on it then had them removed though. If it’s a 2001 registered vehicle, the number plate should have started with a Q or an R. I had an AU II in September 2001 and the letters were RDA. In 2002 the AU III rego started with RMV. My guess is that these plates are around twelve months old.

These cars are worth virtually nothing these days. This bloke would probably take a lot less that that to get rid of it. Trying to sell an AU in 2007 isn’t going to be easy. It doesn’t matter what series it is.

If you look at carsales.com,trading post or any other car selling spot you would know the true value of these cars.El's are still commanding 9-11K, AuI are around 13-15k and II's and III's are 16-18k. 34000k's is very low for this age of car,5spd are hard to find and it looks in fair nick.It doesn't have the momo knob or wheel,so will bring the price down I guess, am assuming it would only have 16inch rims as well. It does how-ever have the full body kit..front bumper pods and full side skirts and rear bar. It is a real bargain with the number of k's it has, even if it was 134000k's it would still be a cheap example.

I bought a 1999 AU I with 143,000 ks on in great condition with 12 months rego for $4500. This vehicle also has ABS and a passenger airbag.

If you want to know the true value of these cars, ask people what they actually sell them for, not what they’d like to get for them? You could also go to the auctions, they’ll tell you what they’re worth.

We are talking about xr's, not standard falcons. You have obviosly got yourself a bargin,you must have the gift of the gab to get it for that price.

As for being on drugs..you get what you pay for, so I hope your $4500 car serves you well.

Regardless of a cars age, condition always determines the price, I would imagine that a beat up would never be worth the same as a car in good condition no matter what the age or type of car it is.

Carsales and the like are just a way for the seller to get their car to the market place, so one could possibly imagine if you take the mean average of the cars for sale you would get the rough value of the car you are looking for. I would suggest to you, Full Noise, that before you share your knowledge base with all and sundry, that you do some basic research on the topic that you would like to discuss, that way you may fool others that you are educated in that field. How-ever, every one is entitled to their own opinion, no matter how silly it makes them appear.

You can imagine as much as you want. John Lennon even wrote a song about that. Why don’t you take your big XR6 down to the local Ford dealer and ask them what it’s worth as a trade? They are around now and then...my wifes AU2 Futura 75th anniversary has just clocked 36000k's ...also saw a AU3 (albeit at a Ford dealer) Forte recently for $15990 (gasp!)...Linz.

The true value of any vehicle (or any asset for that matter) is only what someone else is willing to pay for it, regardless of what it's 'book' value may be.

Mate was trying to sell his Merc ML320 and the best offer he got was about $10k short of the lowest book trade-in value. Those prices mean nothing when it comes time to exchange for cold hard cash.

You speak the language of a used car salesman, are you? If so, please tell us what selling price would the yard put on a similar car if it was bought in for say $7000 ? Somewhere around $12000-14000 maybe and then go on to use its' condition and low mileage as the major selling points.
