Default Ironic Brockie trivia

We all know Peter Brock died (tragically) in a Replica Cobra Daytona? Did you know the bloke who first designed the original in 1963, his name was Peter Brock?. a designer for GM in America. Weird eh?

Yup. I knew that. When the news first came through I was half thinking that maybe they might’ve been referring to PB the yank.

He was an instructor with Carroll Shelby’s driving school as well, he’s worked on Datsuns, ultralight cars and various other things. The new Superperformance Daytona coupes are longer than the originals, which is what he would’ve preferred originally. AC built a low drag Le Mans coupe as well as Shelby. When one of them was being built in Italy they mucked up the height and it was a bit taller than the original plans – Dan Gurney got to drive that one. The Daytona was classed as an evolution of the original 289 Cobra like the Ferrari 250 GTO (Gran Turismo Omoglomato) was an evolution of the original Ferrari 250 SWB GTB (Gran Turismo Berlinetta).

When they made the race cars, the people producing them thought that the flat roofline that the cars had was odd, so they rounded it. This is where the higher roofline comes from, and they also managed to reduce the top speed of the car in doing so. The flat roofed ones were faster, but overall, the modified rooflined cars were the more succesful over their liferime

From a book on the Shelby Fords and Mustangs. He is refered to as "Peter" and also "Pete" Brock. Also designed the rocker panel (sill) stripes for the GT350's.
