Default You want how much???

Had a bit of an shock earlier today when talking to my local Ford dealers spares department about some accessories and mods for my ute. I'm looking at buying a Sports Bar, Tonnau cover to suit, as well as the typhoon air intake snorkels. The bloke quoted me the following prices:

Sports Bar - $904!
1 of the 2 typhoon snorkels - $93! (i believe the one under the headlight)

WTF! - He didn't even give me the prices of the tonnau cover to suit the sports bar, or the price on the larger primary air snorkel (aka XR6T snorkel).

Is this right? From what i've heard from other members on this site, these prices are exorbitant.

Have any of you bought these parts, and for how much? Which dealer did you buy from?

RATT, does this sound right to you? Can you do any cheaper?

I have the snorkel that you are talking about. I think it cost me $83 at the time. Its just a rubber thing! How can it cost $83 ($93 in your case) ?!?!??! Guess they dont want us to buy them. I got mine from Ford at Parramatta.

Every aftermarket sports bar i've ever seen sucks. And aftermarket CAIs are more expensive then buying the stock typoon parts for a NA XR6.

Unfortunately, most ebay sellers do not ship large parts like sports bars.

When I went to get an XH snorkel, the guy brought up a picture of both the ~$40 one and a tickford snorkel on the screen with a price of $553 or something. Hes like "You don't want this one, do you? Because.." and points to the price.

RATT is a versatile and helpful kind of guy, but he doesn't work spare parts. might be best to ring around first.

SSBUB, you'll notice that i'm not looking for that type of CAI, and that i'm doing my own mods to make my intake similar to that of a F6.

One might say the 4 valves per cyclinder work well too! Now unless you wish to actually offer something constructive, you may as well not continue responding to this thread. I'm looking for advise, not stupid comments.

if 4 valves per cylinder work so well why cant they catch 2?
This Ford vs holden thing bores me

Pffttthhh was only tryin to help, i just think the OTRCAI as far as air induction goes, cant be beaten...and you could prob get what you want from ebay was my other suggestion...is that constructive enough?

aah, its true what they say. Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience. Sigh.

If they're the specific parts you want, then obviously only ford spare parts are going to be stocking them. Given that, my suggestion is you just ring the dealers in your area untill you find the best price, as previously suggested.

There will be a day when people come to the realisation that when you bag someone for TRYING to help you, The next time you want/need that help, It just might not be there.

yeah, definately stick with genuine parts..... just ring around a few dealers. Most spare parts ppl are happy to give you trade if you ask, and definately make sure its the exact part your after as there are often a few listings for certain items as people have said and with different listings comes extreme variations in price.

Hey mate, just put a Sports bar on a our work XLS - Ford Factory option and bought it for around the $700

Cost me another 200 for the cover to go with it and about 60 to get it fitted, but i get parts at dealer cost price..

Ask them what their trade price is in the future.

Welcome to the wonderful world of dealer pricing. They know you cant get it anywhere else so they extort you for it. Trust me, seen both sides.

Trick is to ask for trade price and always go to the same guy for prices. Over time he'll start giving you discounts...
