Default Interal Combustion Engine - going nowhere (for now?)

Found this interesting story, a good read -

https://www.forbes.com/sites/bertels.../#1d78217e3a3d

More efficiency on the cards for the ice, new engine oils & devoloping markets to keep the ice in future oem production etc.

cheers, Maka

Taken with thanks from the Forbes ICE story/link above -

"Seba also said that by 2030, 95% of people won’t own a private car, killing off the auto industry. Since my sobering trip to Chiba, I am more and more convinced that these and the many other predictions of the imminent demise of the auto industry are less based on hard facts, and are more a reflection of the legalization of marijuana, or a byproduct of the opiate crisis"

Lol, if only the above were true!

cheers, Maka

Law of diminishing returns. The big gains have been made with fuel injection, direct injection and closed loop engine management systems. There is potential to make more gains however the complexity and cost of these changes and the small benefit they offer are often not economically viable.

Mazda is going to release in the next year or 2 their Skyactiv-X engines. I doubt they would have developed it if the ICE engine was on it's way out.

The prediction of little personal car ownership is driven by people invested in the likes of Uber and Lyft who are proposing the future automated personal transport systems. Most people still want to retain control and ownership of a car, as well as choose the type of car. I can't imagine the premium and exotic brands giving up their profitable halo models to bid on lower cost fleet contracts of soul-less automated electric cars.

The driverless pods are coming to cbd's soon for many reasons imo, i dont see them put to use away from destinations that dont / wont see high traffic congestion.

The policy makers will need to strike a balance between profit & logic, the incumbent golden goose is still a old toxic fossil thats going nowhere for now & the economies of the west cant afford the lag in transition of the take up of the new tech.

How it unfolds is anyones guess lol!

cheers, Maka
