Default If you could talk to your 20 something year old self....

What would you say???

If it were me this would be my list.
1. Don't worry about what anyone thinks, they are the problem, not you.
2. Don't try to fit in with the "in" crowd, be popular and please everyone, it's futile.
3. Driving a cool car does not attract flange. Confidence and personality overcomes your aesthetic challenges.
4. Stop making dumbass decisions such as constantly borrowing money to buy cars.
5. Lose weight, you'll be slightly less ugly.
6. You don't know everything.
7. Get out of your comfort zone and take on new experiences.
8. Live like a tightarse, you will need that money to set yourself up for when you're older, like in 2015.
9. Buy a house ASAP, make the necessary lifestyle sacrifices. Then buy another, then another etc.
10. Listen to what the old crackers at work are telling you (refer to point 6). It is good advice, act on it.

I am in my 50's now and yes, I can't believe what a dumbarse I was in my 20's!!!!

Ever see the movie "Little miss sunshine" ?
Old grandpa's advice was
"SLEEP WITH A LOT OF WOMEN" !!!!!

I guess it's like hair, people with straight hair want curly, those with curly want straight !

Live a balanced life, would be my advice

(Doesn't going back in time create a paradox, aka Back to the Future ???)

1. Buy property now!! It will pay you back soon enough.
2. Stop spending crap loads on performance mods! Those extra 2 secs are not going to be worth it.
3. You wont believe the BS you will have to do for love. Better to be yourself.
4. Stop smoking

Too many dumass things that I've done too list!

Kids are kids & they have to learn in their own time. We were all dumb ar$e kids once. Im now 58 & Im still young at heart, but the body is showing signs age. But life is what you make of it. Some chose to be stoners & blugders, Others are go getters & take a shorter time to work out whats the right way to live. Others are just happy to settle for what they have . You can only hope you have done the best job with them. If your a a$$ehol3 99% chance they will be too.
Smoking is a biggie.
Take into account other people.
If you want to do silly things, do them where only you will get the fall out of them.
Live every day like it maybe your last.
Dont waste time trying to work out woman, it'll never happen....

Buy a house first...then travel overseas.
Take bigger risks more often.
Business/work wise step out of your comfort zone... my 3 younger brothers did and damn I/d love to be financially secure as they are.

Take and ask for advice from elders...they already made the mistakes
Love more and anger less!!!!!

Buy a house they say, it'll only go up in value they say.

I bought a house in my early 20's and have owned it for 8 years and it's currently back on the market for what I payed for it.

For you old blokes here property was the way to go, but it ain't what it used to be!

Didn't buy in Sydney did you? Don't be disillusioned keep trying, there are still bargains to be had you just have to do your research.
A trend i'm seeing is buy where you don't want to live where its cheap as there is always renters in lower socio economic areas, get someone to pay that off for you and then stay with parents for as long as you can. Thats the springboard in a nutshell.

Busselton, southwest WA. It's been a huge learning curve that's for sure..

And I'm not too disillusioned, more disappointed really, because I sacrificed a lot to keep the place, having a long term plan in mind to set myself up for when I'm older and it's all kinda in limbo..

I'm doubtful I'll ever buy property again though..unless the market bellys out again.

If I hadn't made so many mistakes, I wouldn't have learnt anything. However, if I have to say anything....

1. Don't do it when your brother says pull my finger while in a headlock.
2. Keep the XA GT RPO.
3. Don't drink the bong water and potpourri isn't a cheap substitute even if it was only 20c a bag at the fair,
4. Baldness is gods way of punishing you for all those crap 80's hair 'styles'.
5. Don't put your tongue on the Scalextrix track to test the current,
6. See number 2.
7. Throw them away. Flared pants will never be fashionable again,.....ever. Nor will parachute pants.
8. Her sister turns out hotter, Way hotter. Smarter too.
9. That rattle in the engine IS a spun bearing.
10. When you hit that fork in the road where you have to choose between your current girlfriend (plan a) and the other woman (plan b), choose plan b. I'm curious to see how that would've panned out.
11. Darth Vader is Lukes father, and yes, he kissed his sister.
12 Put a lazy hundred on the Swans and West Tigers premiership double in June 05.
Work the rest out for yourself.

1- Youll spend you 20's climbing the corporate ladder thinking after each step things will be better, they wont, management sucks, stay at the coalface.
2-99% of the negative thoughts that keep you awake at night are of things you have no control over-let them go.
3-Youre gonna keep spending money on cars, its a waste but cars are kinda fun, deal with it.

Nailed it, Bearman.

I'll go with what snopony said too. Don't sell the GS, or the Fairmont, or the other Fairmont, or the GT lookalike, and when the $9k original GT comes up, nab it too.

I figure if I take Bearman's advice, I'll have a few garages to stick all those in too ;).

That would've been unlikely to work on me at 20!!! Haha

Some tidbits from my 38 years.......

1. Cultivate relationships with good people who seem to have their ***** together but be cautious not to write someone off on first glance. There are amazing people in this world who are very different to how you might first perceive them.

2. If you're confused about something (anything) and you have the time, ask for advice before making a decision.

3. Learn the difference between good advice and bad advice.

4. Follow the good advice and reflect on the bad advice to learn from others mistakes.

One that I can add from shared experience.......

5. 'No man is an island' - Choose your friends and associates wisely. They are a reflection of who you are and what you stand for.

Really, it's the maturity and balance that (for most people) comes with experience that is key to happiness . After all, "you can lead a person to a good idea, but you can't make them think!!"
