Default 1998 MK Triton, battery light!

Please move this if in the wrong area..

On behalf of my dad.. (although I'm fixing it )

V6 Petrol, manual, spotlights only electrical mod.
New alternator, brand new battery ( both tested today, running ok)
Car runs at 14.1 volts at idle under full strain (high beams, spotlights)

Battery light intermittent, comes and goes, the other night whilst driving out for tea with fiancé and family, the lights slowly dimmed and by the time we got home (40 minute drive) the battery had gone flat.. just making it home.. all the normal tell tale signs of the alternator going. But it doesn't seem that way as all was tested..

ideas? Anyone own an MK Triton with same issue?

Sounds like the regulator on the alternator is faulty or the actual alternator itself.

Need to test charge output when the lights start dying.

Regulators are mostly 'inbuilt' into the alternator so you may need another complete changover alternator?

Yeah this is exactly what I thought when driving home..

also the other thing I should have noted is that whilst the battery light came on (just now whilst idling and nothing changed) the volts did not change..

faulty or confused partion of the ecu?

Really baffled me!

Ye I get you.....If voltage on multi meter is o.k then its gotta be related to ecu afaik.
