Ok so i have a vct intech in my shed and i own a au egas ute i understand so far that fo run the solenoids u run them off the fuel pump wire, but what about the stepper motor? How does that work?

I'm not sure about the exact design used by Ford, but stepper motors work by having a rotor being rotated by a series of coils placed at certain points on the stator. The rotor has a permanent magnet and the coils will be energised in sequence to make the rotor turn.
The simplest analogy would be a compass. The needle being the rotor. If you had magnets at N,S E and W, and you could turn these on in sequence, you could make that needle turn. Because, the rotors positions are pre determined, it is referred to as steps. With solenoids, they will work with any electrical circuit, not just the fuel pump wire. You just need to give them power and ground and they will switch on. You are just energising an electro magnet. |
