If the Falcon no longer came out in RWD and and you only had the following choices, what would you choose?

to be honest i dont reckon a lot of your average 'mum and dad' falcon/commodore owners would be able to tell the difference between fwd and rwd in a large modern average family car...
obviously towing will highlight the differences, but for your daily commute/school run i dont reckon it would make a bit of difference either way.

Number 2 for me...

Doesnt really concern me what they do with the Falcon, i still have the XA Coupe, and that is the last 2WD car i will be buying anyhow.....

I didn't think so either, but my missus hated an Accord Euro we had. Hated the hard parking and turning circle.

How about other options like:

Other RWD vehicle (plenty of RWD euros in the Falcon price range, Merc, BMW etc with the odd yank tank or Japanese/Korean/Chinese rocket)
Other AWD vehicle (plenty of AWDs in the Falcon price range, Audi, VW etc as well as the above)

would drive a euro (audi rs4, M3 or c63amg) and change it over a lot less often, or i would buy the senator and change every 3 or so years

I'd drive an FG turbo of some kind, then probably switch to a HSV... never want a large FWD sedan !!!

would defo go euro if i could afford it, proper euro like AMG M power RS audi etc.,. but then again i wouldnt own a ford if I had that sort of coin.. maybe a 500rwkw FG F6 as a daily bunky hahah

this is the old valiant argument over again. I'm sure everyone can think of an old man who hung on to his 1979 regal ('i'll never drive anything else!') until the early nineties when it was just too old, then conceded defeat and bought a vn or some such.

Yes they will.

I had a KB laser destroyed by kids jumping all over it and smashing the glass with bricks last year.

FWD focus already is a semi daily and has been relatively faultless plenty of stick in xr5 guise rather agile good breaks and all the bells and whistles, the only time we had a problem with it is when the wife loaded the rear of it with wall tiles recently I begged her to take the falcon but she was determine to take the focus, and it had no problem holding the weight or pulling it or stopping it - the problem it did have was a case of the "wobbles" the rear of it wobbled around at 100kph so to keep it safe had to drive slower, to prove the point I loaded same load in falcon and went down highway at 110kmh (speed limit here) and it despite dropping the rear a little was able to move the weight with no wobbles or other incidences, I can see if one needs to tow or carry heavy loads the focus or some other fwd variant is likely not suitable for the reasons above, I will always have a RWD car of some variant for those times that you just need to move something heavy or to tow something, and whats more given what I have highlighted above a FWD falcon utility loaded up bricklayer style would be interesting to drive to say the least

If they do do a hipo, it may be a FWD version (like the Aurion).

The day (in 5-10 generations!) where no-one remembers the Hoey!, that's when FWD will eventually become embedded into the young male phyche and become cool...

I went with the older RWD Ford but really if we are talking the every day drive I dont really care what end drives the wheels or how many cylinders it has. I doubt very much it would ever be a Holden though.

But for a powerful toy for the garage it has to be RWD (or AWD with a RWD bias).

If it went FWD im sure it would be on a platform which would support AWD and I think Ford would make it available on the Falcon. Most of the profit comes from high-end performance V8 and turbo 6 variants at the moment and they would never throw that market away if the Falcon was still locally produced. AWD gives them the option to still chase the high-up luxury, performance and FPV sales (where the money is!). It might even give them the option to still build a ute variant.

actually, you're right. It would almost be suicide to create a FWD without the AWD option.
what about selling to other govt bodies, eg: police, SES, etc

can't seeing them flocking to buy FWD?
If they can go the AWD for falcon, then the new hipo cars will be a real hero!

I can't imagine cops, etc not wanting them. In fact they'll have a solid case FOR them with safety, etc.

Also, if someone's going to buy an expensive GT, I doubt that they'll be put off by an extra couple of g.

Bugger it. I'd still drive a ford because of what value it represents, and I'd continue to be loyal to the brand.
I've driven heaps of front wheel drive cars and for every day work, they're alright.

Goverment Bodies / Police / SES... who do you think buys the cars??? The end-user??? Or a number crunching collar type who'll be looking at the $$$ and nothing to do with the suitability or the features/specs...

If there was a FWD or a AWD option... me thinks that the cheaper option would be purchased...

and if the most un-suitable car was cheapest... then it will be purchased for sure...

I also bet if Falcon does get released as AWD/FWD. It will only be initially launched as AWD, so that all the initial publicity and media attention does not focus on it being FWD. Then a few months down the track Ford would quietly release the more 'fuel-friendly, value models'. Thats how I would do it.

I couldn’t vote as it doesn’t offer my preference.

I'm not into FWD and I'm over the Holdens, so I’d go with a German and it would depend on which offers the best package for my needs at the time. In order of my current preferences it would be Mercedes AMG, BMW M followed by Audi RS.
