A UK man has been banned from driving after he was caught behind the wheel of a pink toy Barbie car while drunk.

Paul Hutton, 40, was busted by police driving the toy car, with a maximum speed of 6km/h, along a road in Essex in eastern England, the Colchester Gazette reported.

The former aeronautics engineer modified the toy car with his 17-year-old son so that it ran on 12-volt batteries and then set out to drive to a friend's house to show off the results.

Along the way he was pulled over by police are found over the limit, prompting a three-year driving ban.

"You have to be a contortionist to get in, and then you can't get out," Mr Hutton said after the hearing.

"I was very surprised to get done for drink-driving but I was a twit to say the least."

Mr Hutton said he wasn't unhappy with the punishment but surprised by it.

Some old mate in North Queensland was disqualified from driving because he was caught on a horse while intoxicated. You can also get done if your on a push bike.

i remember from legal studies in yr 11 there was a case of a guy being done for DUI on a camel, from memory it was in Coober Pedy

yep then the cop got transfered to naracoorte (my hometown) and everyone knew him as the camel cop

If you are on a public road drunk on a pushbike you will get done for it, or lawnmower, electric scooter etc etc

He is a drunk driver on the road.... no matter if its a toy car.
But then I guess doing ones job is always frowned upon by the general public.

There was also a case a few years back of a guy in the states getting done for using his ride on mower while drunk, i dont mean he was mowing the lawn, he was riding it along the foot path lol!

It's a matter of perspective. He was sitting in a Barbie car that was powered by batteries. 3 years disqualification for a DUI in such a vehicle? I'm sure the purpose of the law is to discourage drunken people to get behind the wheel of a vehicle that can and will cause damage. Going head on with a parked car in a Barbie vehicle on batteries driven by a drunk will exhibit no damage on the vehicle he collides with and will compete with the headache he'll feel the next morning with his hangover.

I'm sure I could spot some clown in a barbie car far enough away in the middle of the night to avoid him. Being drunk on the road in a vehicle that can cause real damage is socially unacceptable. Being drunk on (I'm sure a suburban street) in a barbie vehicle isn't a menace to society. Put it in perspective, champ.

So is it more dangerous that he was intoxicated whilst impersonating Ken at 6kph?

Is it more dangerous him driving Barbie's car than staggering down the road on foot?

Is there more chance he would be hit whilst driving a bright pink car than if he was walking?

Would it have been preferable to you that he be impersonating Ken on the footpath as opposed to the road?
