Default The Oval Ford Badge

Does anyone know why or when Ford stopped putting the blue oval on cars? And why they started again (worldwide).

I know early Fords (model T, A etc) had the blue oval badge, and of course new Fords do, (Re introduced in 1977 on Cortina and Escort, back on Falcons etc in 78)

So why did they stop and why did they start again?
Also how did the "Red Oval" come about; in the UK only i believe.

Isn't the latest insignia the 2003 Centennial Blue Oval? The first one was on the radiator shell of 1927/28 Model A yes? It stopped being commonly fitted in the late fifties and got universally reintroduced (some in silver) in 1976 (US bi-centennial year).

Was the Model A & T badge blue? I thought it was just brass or something similar.

The blue oval actually appeared earlier, although not as a badge, on the superroo decal.

Many years ago I had a '35 Ford phaeton which I'm sure had the small blue oval Ford badge on the top of the grill/cowling but my next Ford was a '48 Mercury which didn't have it.(I just went over some old photos to check) so it must've been somewhere around the 2nd.War years.

I read an article recently with a quote from some Ford Marketing Director who basically said the idea (especially recently) has been to separate the Mustang from Ford - give it it's own brand and aura. It's not referred to as the FORD Mustang in advertising, simply the 2010 Mustang... It apparently makes the people who buy them feel all warm and fuzzy because it's not a Ford, it's a Mustang...
