can someone explain why some users names are in (orange purple or green) and most are in blue?

Blue - normal Purple - Donating members Orange - Moderators cant think of a green one

Different access levels to the forum.
Green - Super Mods Orange - Mods Dark Blue - Club Mods Purple - Donating members Normal blue - members Red - Banned Members I think that is correct
