Default Didn't know what he had-Pontiac 1 of 6 built

Hey guys, Im hoping that no one else has posted this, have searched, but nothing.

The story- This guy put this Pontiac up for sale on ebay. He started the bidding at US$500 with a buy it now of US$4000.
It has no engine, gearbox and a few other bits and pieces. Little did he know that it was a one in six sedans built like this. Very rare car and someone brought this to the sellers attention , but he said he will just see what it gets on the bidding. The Winning bid was US$226,521

Here is the ebay link

Top stuff, you never know what you have!

If it was built with an engine and gear box it would be worth less and be just like the others?

If true would be a great surprise

120MPH(192km/h) is still pretty fast for a 1963 model car i reckon...

How does the 'buy it now' work then. If he had people who new what it was interested, and the amount was near the $4k, why wouldn't they jus do the buy it now option?

Because if the first person who looks at it put down a bid, the Buy it now option dissappears for everyone. But if your the first person, you can buy it now. Im guessing the first person didn't know what it was either.

I know of a story where a guy who stripped his XWGT to restore it and discovered that it was a Phase 3 Body that was rebodied as his XWGT, even had the P3 engine in it...

Maybe he was just a tightass. I bet that guy is feeling like a tool for missing such an opportunity!!
