Default Any experience with Famous Car Insurance?

Does anyone have any experience with Famous Car Insurance?

I've been offered full comprehensive cover and a considerably higher agreed value for a premium which is over 30% better than my present (reputable) insurer's renewal offer.

I'm aware that if something looks too good to be true it probably is. Having said that, I understand this is a relatively new insurance company which may be offering heavily discounted premiums to get a foothold in the classic, collectible and performance car insurance market.

The most important thing to me is what I describe as genuine choice of repairer. Most offer what they call choice of repairer yet when one reads the fine print there's various caveats.

I'd particularly like to know if anyone has made a claim with Famous, what the process was, and how agreeable or otherwise they were.

Famous is a specialist insurer of motorcycles who approached CAMS late 2014 with a proposal to partner them in car insurance. Altho it wasn't spelled
out, we assumed Famous wanted access to the CAMS membership as prospective clients. A focus group couldn't see how Famous could match the performance of the established players such as Shannons & Lumleys so decided that unless Famous could come up with some special gimmick they shouldn't get into car insurance. Well they've come up with lower premiums & the track-day limited cover.

Trackday Insurance
L2S or below CAMS sanctioned events
upto $10,000 cover = $555.00 p.a.

As for claims personally I have no experience as I have LSV insurance, some Lotus owners have used Famous just for the extra track day cover as we have events on at least once a month either a Lotus only track day, Burrows drive day or the CSCA sprint cup rounds.

I asked for a quote for full comp on an up coming XR6 Sprint and the premuim was about the same compared to racv in vic but the excess was a little more.

If you think a quote seams to cheap, check the PDS. It's boring, but it's better to know what you miss out on to save 30% a year.
I look at the PDS on every type of insurance before buying.

FPV+fteT3, that is interesting. I did notice the track day cover which I don't need (I'm a cat racer, not a car racer) in the PDS. Apparently one or more of the Famous directors are former Shannons directors.

Mainforcepatrol, my current insurer is indeed RACV. The quotation I have from Famous is using the same excess as I have with RACV. I doubt if RACV will negotiate, they haven't in the past.

I'm pretty sure they were the company that took over the group that bought out my old insurer. I was with a company that specialised in under 30s with "performance" cars, as I bought the XR6 at 22, and no one wanted to cover me.

Eventually they decided that they would no longer cover anyone under 30, so basically wiped out the business they'd just bought.

Seemed like a stupid move to me, but I never had to claim, so I don't really know what they're like to deal with. Gave them the flick and moved my car to our fleet policy, who were more than happy to cover the car, given they were previously happy to cover me in tourist coaches anyway.
