Default Awesome Lego GTHO Phase III

This is grouse. The spec is impressive; true to the original:

Features:

4 speed manual gearbox
Independent front and live axle rear suspension
Open-able doors, boot (trunk) and bonnet (hood)
2X XL motors for drive
1x Servo for steering
46cm x 20cm x 15cm
2.046kg

The gearbox actually works! As in the XY will proceed under its own power according to the gear selected... pretty amazing.

Make sure you watch the video!

made me laugh.

When I was a Lego kid, it was all different sized bricks. No large flat surfaces and flowing lines. The most fancy bits to make things look a bit more real were the roof tiles!

Lol yup. Same. If I attempted to make an XYGT out of lego when I was a kid, by the time I'm done it would look more like a vermillion fire John Deere Harvester.

yep!

I kept all my Lego and each of my kids has had their turn with it.
My youngest was only playing with it all the other day. Was pleasing to come home and see him in the lounge with it all scattered around him rather than sitting at the PC. He was taken shopping by his older sister and he chose one of those Lego sets, he chose the truck with the trailer holding a portable loo! haha, he's a funny bugga.
One thing I'm noticing is that he is more interested in following the build-up booklet, I'm trying to encourage him to ignore that and let his imagination take over.

I hope you teach your 5 year old better manners than displayed here.

It simply means unless you can do better then perhaps keep negative comments to yourself. A lot of time and effort on that model.

There's an awesome (and free) program you can download called LDD..."Lego Digital Designer".
It allows you to select from a list of literally every Lego block they make, and drag and drop it to the main window to build and design anything your mind can come up with. haven't played with it much but apparently you can download a list of all the parts you have used (and therefore need to buy) to make your creation. They used it in the making of The Lego Movie to design various things.

Just go to the Lego website and take it from there.

"Too old"? Hell, I turn 50 in a few days and in the cupboard are the Lego Kombi, the Star Wars Imperial Shuttle and X-Wing, and the Space Shuttle, all waiting for some time off work to put them together. Sitting on the display shelf is Jabbas Palace, Star Wars X-Wing, and a lot of other Lego kits from over the decades including some original stuff from when I was a kid back in the seventies.

Pity the person who feels they're "too old" for Lego...

I still remember a time where I had a massive tray of Lego and it would not be possible to build anything but a brick or a bigger brick let alone something that resembles an actual car with moving parts

Ok, have a go at this one.........it's a kit so it shouldn't be too hard.
(assuming that you've got $300 to spare)

Then try building a car, truck etc.............. from scratch !!

mate, I don't give a rats bright blue backside what anyone says or thinks, I'm way, way on the wrong side of Fifty,.......my grandkids come up and I'm right there with them, Peppa pig, dress up dollies, racing car set, Thomas the tank engine, wooden toys, Lego in fact if someone takes the wrong block then it's a screaming and howling match,.......... mostly from me.

and I tell you right now if my son EVER thought he outgrew playing on the floor with his kids then he's got a dressing down coming to him, but he never would, he's right there with them.

love the car, love the thought, it's bloody brilliant....well done you.......NEVER STOP PLAYING!!!!!!!!

I got my son into matchbox cars at a very young age. Every shopping day he'd a get a new one....or 2!

Then once, on a gardening job, I got an old bag of concrete powder to take to the dump. I kept it.
Took it home, dug a hole in the backyard, made some formwork & built a bridge. Filled "the lake" with water & hey presto, & new town was born!

We would sit & play for an hour or so at a time, 'til distraction got the better of my son & he wandered off. I then had to force myself to walk away or else run the risk of the neighbors thinking I'm a bit weird. I was in my mid / late 20's at the time.

As a kid myself I was once obsessed with model boats & toy cars, now I get to play with the real thing.

Yeah, they're not just kids building blocks anymore.

Of course if you want to 'really' get carried away (and possibly have a degree in engineering) try building one of these

Yep - the Lego I used to have was the softer plasticy type not the hard stuff they have now. The only hard bits were the clear glass looking blocks.

I recall making a rocket once - had 4 flat sides.
