Default Anyone here a NSW SES Volunteer?

G'Day All,

I am dead keen on 'enlisting' my services to the NSW State Emergency Services.

There are a number of reasons why, and as it stands I have served in the RAAF for nearly 7 years now, and my opportunities for utilising my training have almost been exhausted, there is very little else I can do in that regard. So I have been slowly researching what roles are available and what pre-requisites I would have to meet in order to render some kind of effective volunteer service which would benefit the community I live in.

I see their training is all nationally accredited, with competencies assessed and issued for the respective roles. It also appears that the training is heavily utilised when things get real (As opposed to what I am trained for now..... which, touch wood, just isnt likely to happen...) I'd be proud to say I helped somewhere where it counted.... at the grass roots, fellow neighbour level.

Giving something effective back to my community really appeals to me personally so I would like to know if anyone has any advice or guidance as to their own experience in the SES which may be of assistance?

Cheers.

Have you thought about volunteering in the Police?

While where on this what's the min age do the SES have a cadet system like the RFS?

The reason I ask is my son wants to join (he's too young ATM) he has no interest in the RFS (at least then I'd know the answer)

The SES movement I think is a good thing but it's not my bag though the Rescue Accedent Rescue side is very rewarding I already get my RAR fix on the big red truck
