Where you located too, you might get some better offers if you put it in the FS section here.
I wouldnt mind one for myself(for a XP) |

you can pick up an auto from a wreckers for about 250, a motor that needs a rebuild, if i was buying it as is it would be worth about 250 to me, 500 for the lot sounds ok to me.

Are 289's getting thin on the ground? $500 seems cheapish to me but I guess if it needs a few k dropped into it then there is not much you can do.

Sounds like a fair price to me. If i was in the market, i'd snap that up. I wouldn't accept any less.

Is it a small or large bell housing model? Check the number of bell housing bolts, 5 for the small and 6 for the large. In Australia, the '64 Compact Fairlane had the 5 bolt and the XR Falcon had the 6 Bolt Bell Housing (Supposedly). The change happened mid to late 1964 apparently, very early Mustangs had the 5 bolt and the later ones had the 6 bolt.
As I have a 64 Compact Fairlane, I'm interested in which version you have too.
