Default Max ellery or gregorys

Hello people, just wondering what workshop manual would you suggest is the better one?
I've heard one is better than the other?

I have both, I think the Max Ellerys is a bit more in depth.

Gregories has better pictures, is more model-specific and much better for the home mechanic. The Elleries ones are far more detailed and technical and assume you already have a fair bit of mechanical knowledge.

I use the Gregory's one too. Much easier to follow.

I wouldnt go this far but I do agree that Ellerys seems to expect you to know how to do half the job before you start. I find it a bit frustrating in that regard.

Best to have both, then bits that you can't follow too well you can read up on the other and vice versa, to get a better idea on how to do it.

Yeah that's true, get both. Use the greg to understand what the basics are and use the Ellerys for when you need the detailed information.

You can rebuild a BTR using the ellery you cant with Greg.

I've got an Ellery's that tells me it's a Cleverland.
(And aside from the spelling, it is verrrrry vague)

one of the things i found between the 2 in the au falcon version of both was, if you look up auto trans rebuild in both books, ellerys did a reasonable job of a step by step guide (up to a point), in the gregory`s there was basic serviceing and incidentals, but it did not have the rebuild section.

Neither, buy genuine Ford.

I have tried each on older models and found they were next to no help.

^ What this man said. I had the Max Ellery manual for the XF and whilst helpful by and large, it was far from complete.
