Default MK 2 escort fuel guage

G'day everyone, i'm sure there is already a thread on here about it but i can't seem to find it, anyways i just got one of my many escorts rwc and rego'd and now use as a daily drive (1.6 auto), however the fuel guage doesn't seem to work, gets fuller when i go round corners, and then generally sits under empty. is there any easy fix for this? i know i get around the 400km plus mark for a tank, so it doesn't worry me too much, but just the convenience of have a working guage for long trips would be handy.

Forte, can you pull the sender unit out of the tank and check it to make sure its not b****** broken, once out connect an earth wire from the car to the sender and have the sender wire connected, turn the car on, then lift the float up and down while someone watches the guage. I have a few MK2 1600's sitting around if you can't get bits over there. I'm in whyalla SA. and I guess I'd need to know if it is a floor tank or side tank.
Cheers,
Les

check all connections, and if all good, pull the sender out and clean the contacts on the sender unit. may need to tweak the sender arm to make sure its always got contact.

how many escorts have you got?
can you get some photos up? dont see many around the valley these days.

3!!!! Is that all, I've got 5....and 3 Capris as well.

Have you checked the circuit at back of the dash. They usually come unstuck and break. This usually shows itself as a bad earth, where you get the guage working sometimes, then never. The sender units don't break too often unless the car has been left empty for long periods.

I just dug up my old account to post on the same topic, nice timing Forte, saved
me the trouble.

I have mine registering full when full, then empty around the 130km mark.
