Default punching out cats

not sure if this is the right spot for this post but does anyone know the penalties for hollowing out your cats?

i have heard of people doing it and it makes me wonder if the risk for the performance gain would really be worth it?

BIG penalties.

BUT if you wanna do it...punch out the cat and put a bit of pipe through the guts. Drill a hole in the top and inject resin or some kind of compound into the cat to fill around the pipe...

If someone taps on it, sounds like a cat that hasnt been punched out.

is it easy for a cop or road and traffic officer to test the emissions your car is producing?

But as soon as they go an EPA check all that work will be for nothing.

The fine is 10k odd so really not worth it considering how cheap you can get some decent metal cats for.

As far as I know (correct me if I'm wrong) but you can get a destictive egg smell from ULP when you run with a gutted Cat.

Unfortunately ignorance is not an excuse. Its up to the owner of the vehicle to maintain it in a roadworthy and legal state.
There is no proof either way, so you could possibly get away with it, but if you have been pulled over and checked out thoroughly then odds are that you will not be given the benefit of the doubt.

It's not worth it!. 10K fine. I will admit it does sound a load better (especially in V8's) but it's not worth the risk sorry mate!.

And yeah they can do an emmision test from your exhaust thats how they get you.

I think the fine can be more than 10 grand as well, but what would be the point as generally the car will lose performance without cats anyway.

Get a quality performance cat and all will be fine.

Re if you buy the car with it already done get it fixed asap, as buying a non road worthy car is no excuse for driving it on the road, thats like saying sorry officer, the tyres were down to the canvass when I bought the car, so its not my fault.

I have no cats in one of mine (NZ it's legal to remove) no egg smell.
How ever you can tell it has no cats by the moisture that comes out the end of
the system, and every one I have seen with them removed does the same.

I think the RSPCA wouldn't be too happy you went around doing that.

On the fine though, the only place I've ever heard the fine as $10K is on forums, does anyone actually know where to find the relevant legislation (I've checked the RTA and EPA sites before).
