This is correct, but there is a big push to have it banned. Typical. We cant have the people having fun now, can we!!

No you cant, but they buy the cheapest. If NT draught is available, they will get that instead. You gotta remember these people dont have fridges. In hot weather the thought of drinking warm beer turns the stomach, and VB needs all the help that it can get.

Lived there for 3 years. Wouldn't go back now.
I've lived in a lot of places... Moree, Cunnamulla etc, but Katherine takes the cake in my opinion.
We had friends visiting us down here a few months back, stayed in Bowen for 4 days. They did a good tour down the east coast of QLD then headed back across.
You can guess what they arrived home to... And on a Thursday as well.
They've had enough. They're selling everything (Business, Home Etc) and leaving at the end of the year. After living there for 20+ Years, they're packing up.
They were amazed that they managed to walk the main street in Bowen without having to hold their breath, or get asked for $2 or a smoke.
I lived in various locations in the town itself, mostly fairly good areas (Just off the Vic Highway in a flat, then out on Zimin Drive on 5 Acres)
My In-laws live 5 minutes out of town on a small 5 acre block. Just far enough out to not have to put up with them. At their old house, they had them fighting in their driveway, throwing bricks etc
I once had a slab of Pal 1.2kg Dog Food tins in the back of my ute. Had it parked out the front of my in-laws old house in the middle of town... Also had an N70ZZ battery in the back.
Guess what went missing.... 4 Tins of Pal!
I could go on, but that will do for now.
The only reason I went there was for the career opportunity. And as I said, I definitely wouldn't be going back anytime soon.

Cheers

But on the good side, there are some very nice rides getting about up there. The RAAF have dragged some nice cars into Town with their officers.
Motor Vehicle Enthusiasts Club of the NT have a chapter in Katherine, and they have a lot of different events during the year.
You're only 2 hours from Darwin, and they frequently have drags etc up there, so it maybe worth a drive.

Cheers

Ive had 2 mates move there over the last couple of months. I told them they were mad. (one army one teacher). I would never move my family there, although both Friends are enjoying it but I suspect the novelty will wear off really quickly.

There are many good small displays to to help you put the ww2 history together and one of them is in Katherine. The musuem is out near the hospital on the way to the gorge.

I meet an old guy where I currently live when I got to the Island (he has since passed away), he was based in Darwin during the bombings, we had many long talks.
Allot of these guys did it real hard.

I would also be interested in any discussion on this subject.

My grandfather built some of those airstrips. He drove the bulldozer. He's 87 now.

It would have been a hard life up there during the war. I hope to visit trusscot one day. Its a bit hard at the moment as it is leased by a mining company (santos I think) and they are not happy about people dropping in.
