Default drag racing at eastern creek - street cars

i'm off to eastern creek next wednesday to have a go at the street meet, does anyone have some advice about the best way to get a good et and be competitive? i 'm just running a std falcon, is it just being consistent that really matters?

They don't have drag racing at eastern Creek anymore, it's across the road at WSID...

To get the best ET, just make yourself comfortable and try and do the same thing every run

try and get into the left lane before you run, its stickier, better traction... and its not in my head about 80% of the people I talk to that run there say the same!
if Auto stall it up before launching, and manually hold each gear out to almost redline (5800rpm) and remember you dont have to go when the light goes green, the timer starts when you break the beam on launch.
dont bother deflating your tyres down to 18psi or whatever you've been told, it does NOT improve traction thats just a myth.. leave your tyres with the normal psi you have them at..
doing a BIG burnout to warm the tyres wont do anything but wreck the tyres, do a little one to basically scruff them up and make them a little sticky then move forward to stage. Officials dont like monster burnouts either..
Getting consistant is the key to begin with before attempting to get faster and faster... try a few different techniques to see what works and what dosent, its all in practise.. test and try.. ie, different rpm launches, different rpm gear changes
only have about 1/2 a tank of fuel aswell, I know its picky, but less weight, also take your spare out.. and anything else that 'weight reducting', could mean 1/10th or so.
Dont go passed the staging beams the officials get angry about it aswell and will warn you.. and dont speed on the return road.
Get out there and have fun..

Eastern Creek and WSID are two different places BUT literally right next door to eachother on the same block of land even! Although people do know WSID as the Creek still..

thats about all I got at the moment..

I agree that doing big burnouts on street tyres is useless, but where I race the officials don't mind the big burnouts, they actually seem to like them, gives something for the crowd. I've had my fair share of burnouts in the pre stage area, have a look at my avatar ;)

But some of my best 60' times have been after big burnouts. I think my fastest ET was after a medium standstill.

First tip don't try too hard. Usually makes you nervous and slow. If you aren't after a win just a PB no hurry to guess the lights just go when ready. In a std Falcon auto I guess as 80% are just stall it up lightly 1500-1800rpm max and let it run in drive. After a few runs try shifting manually as close to the redline not cutout as you can 1-2 and 2-3 and see how it goes. When mine was stock I could run 17sec just in second gear (using first and second only) but 16.8 letting it change into third at 125kmh.

Burnouts are for the crowd. With a stock car and street tyres unless you want to ruin your tyres to impress the crowd don't worry about it.

Lots of people laugh at my wagon I never do a burnout just drive on through. Even at mid 15's with street radials (225R16) 3.45 diff not LSD and an auto I can get 2.33 60" without doing a burnout. Its all about power and control in the launch.

I never said it was the same place but it is all known as Eastern Creek.
The main track and the drag strip are in no way in competition with each other they wanted to bring top fuel drags back to Sydney and to do that they needed a better track as the main straight of Eastern Creek raceway wasn't up to scratch for a full blown drag strip and most people that raced on the track hated racing after a drag meet due to oil and fuel left on the track and that was just from street cars.

Ran the Ed Futura down the strip tonight at WSID, best time of 17.336 @ 81.97 mph. I reckon I could get into the high 16's with some minor changes. Good fun, a lot better on the other side of the fence!!

Good stuff. I never really got the courage to take my car down there and I've been in sydney for 5 years. Maybe one day

racing at the creek is so much fun. The best advice i can give u is to leave on the last orange, buy the time u react to that the light has already gone green.
