Hi guys, I'm no rev head and an old fart so I just sold my BF you beaut ute and bought a one owner manual KQ laser with 50k on it. It's got a 1.6 egg beater in it (I said I wasn't a rev head!) and runs OK. However I notice when changing up depending on how much go juice you give it, it hesitates/surges, not a misfire just misses a beat sort of. I suspect one/some of the millions of pollution controls/hoses/whatevers but have no idea where to start. I want to solve it myself if possible, last time I went to a workshop for "problem solving" I left without an arm and a leg!! Any help welcome.......Thanks

I'm an old fart too and although I'm not a real rev head I have still found one of the best ways to improve the performance on a small 4 cylinder engine is to start with the air filter / intake and exhaust upgrade. Of course a lot is going to depend on how the Laser was driven prior to you taking over the reins as well. The fact it has very low K's for it's age is not always a good thing, the problem you mention could be related to the fuel filter, I had a car with a similar issue a few years ago and changing the fuel filter fixed the issue, of course it could also be a spark plug or lead so you may have to use the process of elimination to get to the bottom of the problem |

Thanks Russ,
Had it serviced yesterday and the local spanner twister found a leaky vacuum hose. Running sweet as now!! |
