Unsure why it bothers you though, owners can ask whatever they want for their car. It just means it wont sell, I enjoy laughing at their ads.

While some may be dreamers, others are only using the current advertisements as a guide to what they should be asking for theirs.

I know when I advertised mine, Carsales provided a guide as to what it was worth (I'm assuming this is based on current advertised cars...and previous sales).

The problem is, I don't know what they use to calculate the previous sales on. When mine eventually sold (for far less that it was advertised for), Carsales would not have known what the final sale price was.

Carsales said an AU TE50 T3 should be advertised for 20-22k. I sold it in two weeks at $42500. I never go by their guide. I research on facebook, gumtree and carsales for what is currently available or has been, and then go from there.

You are right though, prices are so over the place at the moment, who knows where to start.

You also get dreamers and annoying folk wishing to input their opinion on your selling price. I had multiple messages saying the last T3 I sold was advertised too high and i'm a dreamer and would I take 25k. When i replied to a few it was sold, they didn't believe me..........

You see that on Facebook in the buy/swap/sell groups, every car that is advertised, there's always some meth junkie putting their two cents in on every car that gets listed and they're not happy unless it sells for a 6 pack of VB and a carton of winnie blues. Its usually someone with a jacked up 1990s 4x4 in their profile pic and they reproduced as teenagers with their 15 year old girlfriend they met in high school in Melton because they still don't understand prophylactic use.

Thing is, those who are enquiring about a T-Series know exactly what they are looking at and know exactly what they are really worth.

Any attempts to insinuate that the price is too high is just making them look stupid and hypocritical.

If they think that your AU Falcon is too expensive, then perhaps they shouldn't be looking at the top of the range model with a hand-built engine, bespoke gearbox and irreplaceable body additions.

I put my hectic ****box up there at well over the odds prices on the regular, I had one bloke ask me for swaps like three times on three separate occasions, but he stopped playing along once I started agreeing but for vehicles he didn't have

I guess it depends on what the others are listed for on carsales as well, last time I looked mine at well above the odds would have been the cheapest of the three listed in the country with 100,000km less on the clock too.

I still wouldn't ever pay what I listed it for though if it was me chasing one

Thought i done not too bad in june/july 2020 I bought a VF Calais V 6ltr V8 wagon for 29.5k.. (as covid tax was starting on V8 holdens) Had it for 20-ish months, put 15,000kms on it and drove it how a V8 should be driven. Put it on carsales, had a wholesaler contact me and came within 1k of what I wanted so figured saves the headache of waiting and was money the next day pending mechanical inspection so why not and got 36.5k for it

It ended up in a caryard 500km away for 42.5k then seen it get down to 39.2k it was carsales for 4 and a bit months in the yard. Was surprised surely between the whole sale, caryard, freight, mechanical inspections there wasn't much made off it in the end.

And now - here I am wanting another VF wagon! Probably wait till next year for the prices to come down more and just get a pov pack next time though.

I think Pov pack is supposed to have the best ride, ironically.

If matching numbers as stated I see that as a good buy. 12 months ago it would be a steal.

because the dreamers arent selling their cars and probably have no intention to. They're just fishing for rare morons who will overpay

Sounds funny but if you're looking to buy aussie cars at a realistic price facebook marketplace is probably the best. sure there are some troll asking prices but most want to actually sell their cars

People can ask what ever they want for their cars, they dont need anyones permission to list it, at any price.
All this sounds like is some folks missed out on grabbing some cash on a nice car they had.

I had a customer wanting to trade in a VF LSA Clubsport this week with only 4500kms on it.

As we do in the car trade, we called around to a number of wholesalers to get their thoughts.

The main wholesaler in whom I'd approach for such a car didn't want to know about it, citing a huge amount of money they have burned with HSVs and other performance cars of late.

The peak is past, it seems

Could be the economic conditions at the moment having a say as well, the fuel prices didn't put a dent in the performance car market but the toys are going in fire sales with the inflation and interest rate rises which seemed to stop it in it's tracks.

There's a bright pink VN V6 going in Bendigo at the moment and the owner is asking $11.5K.

I'd be half tempted at $3K

Gee, clutching for good points when you have to have an 5L hubcaps in the description
Might ok if it was actually a 5L in a better colour.

My mate has one of his mortgages at $400k coming off fixed in April, going from mid 2% to up around 7.5%. So in preparation he’s trying to offload his low kay VF SS LS3 wagon for $65k. 12 month ago he’d probably have got $80k for it but now realistically a $45-50k car.
Gonna be more of that starting early next year. Be interesting to watch the 70 series market.

Nearly 300,000 km. I'd buy it for $500 just so I could set it on fire. It looks ridiculous.

My Nephew has been on the hunt for a tidy BA to FG XR6 ute for work and camping.
Found a nice white BF with stripes on marketplace but gave up after 3 weeks of trying to arrange a viewing and being continually held off with BS excuses.
Probably just some dreamer who wants affirmation that its actually worth reasonable coin but too scared to let it go when it comes time.

Very hard to find any decent BA/F/FG of any kind in SA now, reckon id still get $6k for mine.

She's the mighty Buick V6, 300,000km isn't even run in yet

Might be on its 7th T700 though, I'd rock the pink VN weapon

Reminds me of an FG F6 that was purchased and went to WA from Vic.
I had it saved as i was half keen.
They (car yard) purchased it, went over there.
IIRC it sold for near on the same money that it was advertised here, after it was advertised for 10-15k more. I think it was just before the lurgy hit.
I mean if people have been able to make some coin by selling cars thats fine (sometimes thought about it myself, but couldnt) but it was kinda good to see that happen to a car yard

Hot House Green is an awesome colour, still miss my VY Clubsport, one of the best drivers cars I've ever owned. Worth about 4 times what I sold it for now. (well, not the one I sold, it got totaled by the new owner)

Yep the interest rates are beginning to bite.

If you remember the thread, my pick for a covid buy with about 20K was as many XG to XH Panelvans as I could get my hands on. The fundamentals were sound: travel within the country was only option, half of young Australia bought a malibu surfboard... They were going for 7s to 15s for best/dreamers - a quick scan last night saw many rough to honest ones in the 3s and best in the 7s. So I guess I blew up that hedge fund. As for the fundamental certainty: the young all got hocked to buy a $70,000 VW Transporter on ridiculously low interest rates instead, who could have known?

Just noticed BA-BF Fairlanes are back to reasonable pricing, most sub 12K, unicorn examples and low km LTDs still asking 20+. The best BF XR6 turbos asking around 30s now.

The E series scan reveals the odd bargain, great original sub 5K cars; V8 Fairmont wagons ranging between 7s and low/mid teen asks.

Then there's the story of an F6 Typhoon owned by a family workmate about half a decade ago... a bit run down, wanted 15 for it. In Covid the best ones were 60+K asks... these seem still up there in their asks.

So it's beginning, I'll let Mr Churchill end the post:

"The era of procrastination, of half-measures, of soothing and baffling expedients, of delays is coming to its close. In its place we are entering a period of consequences."

Good competitor to a BA/BF XR6T is a JZS161 Toyota Aristo, good ones changing hands for around $20K mark.

Ideally I'd rather the XR6 Turbo because its less complicated under the bonnet, but its not worth a $10K difference.

I'm concerned about EL XR6 values, seen people trying to offload them for the $20K-$30K mark, you've got to be joking.

Default Re: Good value second hand cars - COVID times, Falcon/Commodore tax

Been watching FG and FGX turbos with over 125,000km come down drastically. Cars that were selling for 30-35k 6 months ago are now advertised for 20-25k. Nice to see the market stabilise.

Unfortunately for me, Mustang prices have continued to go up in the last 6 months, cars that were 60-65k are now 70-80k
