What do you keep in your Ute / Car

Hello,

My Ute " failed to proceed " last week. I always have a lot of stuff stashed away in case of such a thing, and I was wondering what others keep ? I have serp. belt, hoses and tools, jumper leads, rain wear, tent, food, water, dog bowl, towels, MTB tools, jocks, socks, gas barby and spare canisters. The list goes on, axe, spade, sleeping bag, spare clothes. All this is in the Cab. Main problem is when the GF drives it, she moves the seat forward so I have to repack behind it after. A Car has a boot you can fill with handy things, but a Ute has far less space available. What sort of things do you carry ?

My son has the same sort of ute as you and he carries, McDonalds wrappers, empty coke cans, smelly wet swimmers and beach towels.

I travel where it can get cold, and no phone reception. I was talking to a Woman who owned one and said there was no room to put anything. I have the passenger seat a bit forward for more room behind it. I have a lot of stuff stashed just in case.

that's right a ute has a real big boot
and can be lockable with a hard top or crapnopy to increase the capacity but kelp keep a little security

I have a suburban 4X4 (so to speak as I carry sweet f/a) and a mate has an ultimate 4x4 (late model patrol with turbo diesel v8 chev) packed with all types of standard and off road equipment and recovery gear , we go away as a large group and his gets parked where the tent gets set up and stays put and well I don't mind using mine as the 4x4 it is so im always out in it

I often cant see out the back window, as the Dog has drooled all over it and there is dust stuck to it. I often have the Dog or a MTB there, but was curious to what people kept in the Cab. If you left a Ute with tools in the back, you would come back to a big empty space and no tools !

I fit rather a lot behind my seat. I have my toolbox behind the passenger seat, tyre repair kit in the drivers seat pocket, fire extinguisher and first aid kit on top of the toolbox. Have a carry box behind drivers seat with assorted items that aren't in the tool kit, torch and travel umbrella etc. still have the area behind the centre console for when we stop for a small shop or pick up a parcel so I don't have to open the hardlid for a box of tissues. As for in the tray, currently running around with 4 rods, 2 chairs, fishing gear, buckets and a worm farm as well hahaha

All those tradies must buy new tools everyday of the theft is that bad. Why not get a quality toolbox for the tray and screw it down?

In my grocery getter, nothing

In my wifes 38, I have a tool kit (spanners screwdrivers BFH ((big ******* hammer)) jumpers and a few emergency odds and sods)

other than that a phone is about it

In the truck I'm currently building, I'm fabricating a toolbox that will fit behind the cab and under the tray before the read wheel, ( have enough space for 1200 X 500 X 500 so I'm doing a little planing for that. but nothing OTT

Footpump or Electric Airpump.
It is not a matter of if, it is a matter of when will you get a screw / nail in a tyre.
A few years ago I came out to my car and bugger I had 2 flat tyres on the same side.
Apparently I had run over a screw and flicked from front to rear tyres.
Get out the foot pump and pumps them both up.
As they are slow leaks it buys you time to get to the nearest tyre place to get them fixed.

When I had my ute had nothing in the cabin area and my golf clubs and buggy in the back. As for the chance of theft, I had a hard lid with a locking system that was activated with the car doors locking/unlocking (http://www.lidlok.com.au). Can't recommend this system highly enough.

At the moment in the boot there's some screw drivers, spanners, a socket set and some window wipes. Usually there's a bottle of water, an old towel, and some of my car care products, but most of that is in the garage at the moment.

Quite honestly, if I break down i'm more likely to call RACQ than try to do a running repair on the side of the road. The tools have come in handy a few times for other things though.

Inside the cabin there's usually a spare umbrella, rain poncho, some spare sunglasses and not much else. Oh, and my sun shade.

I don't like to leave things in the car that can be seen, I figure it adds some temptation to break in, so if I have a bag with me it'll generally go in the boot.

I have thought a bag with a towel, toiletries, a change of clothes and the like in the boot is a good idea. Whether it's a pair of shorts for an impromptu swim, some dry clothes if something happens, or a surprise stay over somewhere, I know it would have been handy to have with me in the past.

Of course, then there's my girlfriend's car. I'm not sure what's in it, but it usually looks like a hobo has been camping it out in it.

For me, jumper leads & some basic tools.

Got full road side assistance with tow/transport back to home base if I break down out of town with any of my 3 x cars.
Come in handy when my 1986 ford laser hatchback broke down one night 50km from home. tow truck turned up, car on back and me in the passenger seat back home.

for me it is alot,
i have tool boxes (full tool kit), spare fuses, spare light globes (headlight, parker, indicator, etc) jumper cables.
inside the car,
first aid kit, rain ponchos, jacket, jusmper, pens, textas, torch, notepads,
the list goes on and on, basically i like to be prepared for when i may need almost anything, you never know what life is going to throw at you next...

In the back of my ute I've got a toolbag, jumperleads, a couple of camping chairs and ropes etc. I've got 2 big plastic tubs I've ocky strapped to the sides of the tub which allows me to store stuff in there without it all sliding around everywhere. I've got a hardlid connected to the central locking so everything is nice and secure though. Behind the seat, I've got a sunshade and picnic blanket

For me, the less the better. Sunnies, mobile phone, microfibre to clean the inside of the windscreen, that's basically it. Spare tyre, jack and brace in the factory location. I hate things shifting around, rattling, sliding etc and it's just more weight in the car, and can become projectiles in an accident. I've owned Falcons since I got my L plates and never had one leave me stranded on the side of the road, so I don't bother carrying any tools (maybe a screwdriver, pliers and a small shifter in the glovebox on the older car). I have RACQ cover anyway.

Exception is longer road trips, then I will take tools, cable ties, tape etc just in case, would hate to have an issue a long way from home.

In my Territory I carry a spare door key without chip cable tied under car, spare tail lightbulbs, torch, pocket knife, CDs, $20 coins, fuses, pliers, spare ign key,(hidden), water bottle, old road maps, Navigator, the owners manual and service book, insulated bag to put frozen shopping in, umbrella, spare raincoat, small trolley jack, timber chocks, screwdriver set, 3/8 mini socket set, some spare wire, old rags, some ocky straps, a safety vest, plus the usual rubbish that accumulates in the bottom of the glove box and centre console.

It'd be easier for me to list what I don't carry. All camping, travelling breakdown stuff is always in the ute.
To travel we just pack our clothing and some tucker.

My car has a first aid kit and a umbrella in the boot, but that stuff came with the car (Oh and two safety vests, lol).

Car has run flat tyres and two roadside assistance packages.

Only thing I put in the car is me.

An umbrella, old jacket, couple of sun hats, shopping bag, cd's, that's about it.

No tools or parts carried apart from the standard wheel changing gear, no jumper leads even, as Murphy would make sure I wouldn't have the right tool or part if anything went wrong anyway. The RACV will be called if I do need assistance.

Same goes with my MGB, except I do carry some spare fuses just in case.
