Default Spammed from BarginsAU

This morning I received a spam email sent using my Ford forums email. Have our details been sold or data leaked?

No in both cases. Unfortunately, it is fairly simple to spoof an email address in the sender field - I get them all the time from all sorts of names @fordforums.com.au.

If you dig into the detail of the header you will see where they really originate from.

Cheers

It's not from a Ford forums email. It's from the bargin spammer. The "to" email is mine, which is unique to the sign up to these forums. Every site I sign up to I use a unique email alias that you'd have to be a mind reader to guess.

Yeah, I got one from BargainsAU as well. It's very rare that I get any spam emails to my work email address.

It's also funny how the bargains it lists are all car related. Sorry but something has happened for them to get this email address. This is the exact reason I create unique addresses for every site sign up, it identifies the leak.

I didn't get one. Have you by chance sent a private email to another forum member some time in the past.

I received one from bargainsAU as well, never had one before until yesterday. At the bottom it also showed woolies and bigW catalogues. I am a woolies rewards member so is that another possible source?

Yes that's exactly what mine looked like, but they were very crappy photo's and I wouldn't dare click on the links. They do not go to the vendors websites.

Have you googled that email address to see if it has been harvested and published somewhere? If you keep a list on your PC you may have been hacked.

Yes, it doesn't come up in any known spammer lists either. It is not written down anywhere there is no need.

Also check any legit emails you have previously received at that address or sent from that address; it might tell you the likely source; the sender or receiver may have been hacked or forwarded a reply from you so it's fallen into the hands of a spammer.

This suggests in easy to remember and therefore perhaps guess and/or perhaps that you use different variations of the address on different forums.

It's only used on this forum on signup. No variation. Someone else getting the exact same email is a start.

Seems to be similar complaints there.

No I am not on those forums, and even if I was I would have signed up with a different alias, and no I haven't used that site.

They got you PF, same thing happened to me with the Great Dominoes Data Leak.
Proven by a unique username and my usual email address not as in your case of a unique email address. (Dominoes blamed a supplier LOL)
https://www.google.com.au/search?q=d...hrome&ie=UTF-8

Make a message rule to bin anything with Bargains AU in the header.

Oh, I should add that I'm also now getting emails from Bargains AU, if they don't stop soon I'll set up a rule to dispatch them into the bin.

The one I got had an unsubscribe option.

As it's my work email, I'm not massively fussed if something goes pear shaped, so I clicked it and it said that I was unsubscribed for emails now.

I'm pretty certain that Fordforums is the only forum that I have linked with my work email. Everything else runs through my Gmail.

I got one, saw it was all related to car stuff, didn't bother to read it and deleted it.
I do not have any 'rewards' cards with any company, and I also refuse to give email address to SCA, BCF, or any other retail outlet.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was contracted from else where
The newest windows update applies a fix for the massive security breach in intel processors. However, this fix will affect CPU performance.
Benchmark tests show CPU slowdown of anywhere between 5 and 30%.

Details about the Intel Security flaws and Windows Update can be found here

Since I done the windows update I have noticed a marked slow down, didn't know it was windows. It' not that it is slow, it just takes more time to load and open programs. Is this what happens?
