And they thought the supercar wars ended with the XAGTHO...

Looks a hell of a lot nicer that the Veyron, But I'm guessing the Veyron is a nicer all round package... I look forward to the Top Gear review in about 5 years time :P

Well bugatti are planning to release a 1200hp 430km/h veyron GT and its only the tyres holding it back.

The first run was scheduled for yesterday. I haven’t heard anything yet.

Bristol have a twin turbo Fighter that when they tweak it up (i.e. not the version available to customers) it might beat the Veyron V-max.

I reckon that VW would make it difficult to rent out their high speed oval for a Bugatti competitor.

It’s American. I wonder how many cup holders it has? :hihi:

I highly doubt it considering each Veyron they sold, sold at a massive lost to them.

It cost $5 million pounds per car (that's entire project costs split between the amount of cars produced at the time) and they sold for $840,000 pounds.

Basically $700 million to produce 140 cars.

Their corporate spin is that it is cheaper for Bugatti/VW to grab the headlines this way.

Compared to the cost of following BMW and Mercedes in to F1 (and running a mid-field team until they win), they argue that the Veyron is a bargain,

Think how much Toyota, Honda (in the 2000’s), Lamborghini (nee Chrysler) & Jaguar sank in to F1 with little to show for it.

How can it do 0-100mph (0-160km/h) in 11.66 sec and do the 1/4 in 9.90 @ 232km/h (145mph)???? There's something very wrong with that carsales article.

Steffo, thats what I thought. I thin the veyron does 0 -200 in like 6 seconds or something, there is no way possible, that it does 0-160 in 11.66. Mine does 0-142 in 15.88, and its just a Fairmont.

Just to be thorough... these are the times I have for the Veyron...

0-100km/h: 2.3 sec
0-200km/h: 7.3 sec
0-1/4 Mile: 9.8 sec
0-300km/h: 16.7 sec
0-400km/h: 55.6 sec

There's definitley no way the Ultimate Aero is that slow 0-100mph.

Yeah, you're right steffo, carsales stuffed up.
That Ultimate Aero TT looks a bot like a Diablo or XJ220 from the side, a more traditional supercar shape than the Veyron.
A reckon the Veyron looks better just because it looks more original and recognisable, and I bet the Veyron would be a better package too.
Still, I wish these Ultimate people the best of luck.

Aerodynamics. The Bugatti loads the whole car with its aero package to give it stability and the ability to hit a bump and survive whilst at high speed; this aero tt has a more traditional shape however can suffer the same fate as the Mclaren that Mark Webber drove. I work in aviation, have an ATPL and understand aerodynamics and I can tell you that cars with a shape like that and slung so low can severely be upset when they hit a bump or a crosswind. Plus, alot of F1 guys developed the veyron to last a number of years, how long will a severely worked V8 last? Or the gearbox? Or the rest of the driveline?

Frankly, whilst Americans can build great cars I'd much rather put my money on a German car.

Also, wasn't this the car that James May said "Rubbish - Not slippery enough" on Top Gear this year, I think series 9 episode 4?

He was driving a Mercedes CLK-GTR when they had the 3 flips at Le Mans. Mercedes were rumoured to be have sacrificed downforce for speed at that race. I think that they hit a bump and caught air and the things took off so you are right they weren’t too stable.

The McLaren racers were also meant to be very light at high speed (the road cars had a scary transition zone on the way to Vmax!).

Bugatti still get a bit scared of someone writing themselves off at high speed. Turn the power key for the high speed runs and the spoilers don’t extend but turn the steering wheel more than a few degrees (and maybe touch the brakes) and it defaults to the “low speed” setting.

Call me a chicken but I’d rather downforce than top speed.
