Default What year did the adr for pollution gear start

I'm thinking of starting a new project and am thinking of building a coupe or mid 70's ute as i have always tinkered with late model efi fords i never really worried about having a carb with no pollution gear attached some of my mates have advised me it's a $5000 fine for having a holley on an xc-xd as they came out with pollution gear so which year did that it start and can someone advise me on the legalities of running efi on an 351 in an xb for example.

thanks for the help guys

most lpg places wont put gas on a thermoquad carb as it has a plastic bowl, the suggested carb is a holley...

I had my Thermoquad converted to dual fuel when it was still legal to do so. Apparently there were problems if you switched over to gas without letting all the petrol run out of the carb first.
ADR 27A actually made a motor use MORE fuel, but it gave less pollution.
With Holleys you get more points if you have an electric choke (at least in the States you do, cause it turns itself off).

My auto choke 750 gets a blue star. Manual choke 3310 only gets an amber.

Have modded 2 Celicas when I was young and didn't know better.
One was a 1976 RA23, and that had 27A stamped on the compliance plate. The other was a 1975 TA23 and it was 27 only (no A).

Therefore either late '75 or early '76 was when the big hit on pollution came in.

Both defected and fined one guy had no charcoal canister and all the other egr and what nots and apparently got an 5k fine too that is my concern as to my knowledge you cant hook up charcoal canisters etc.. to holleys

BTW none of theese cars run lpg and i'm not planning running lpg either i want a hi=comp clevo in an xe and all this pollution crap is putting me off.

I have a 650 holley on my cleveland, and Vic roads passed it sweet, it has all of the same Vac lines, so i dont see the problem... Plus the thermo-quad was a heap of shiite..

Came in July '76. Co-incided with Ford releasing a modified 1600 engine in the Escort range that was a pure choker as opposed to the pre '76 1600 fitted in the new MK2 Escort Ghia. Sorry but thats the way I remember as I used to tinker with these during my boyhood.

I worked at a Holden dealer in 76 when 27a was introduced. 202's had a bad habit of burning valves because of 27a. The fix after fitting new valves and seats was to not fit valve guide seals the oil flow down the valves cooled them. But my guess is it ruined any gains made by 27a. ADR 27a was a dark time in Australian automotive history.

i ran a clevo in my 84 xe with a vac sec 600 holley, and hooked it up to the canister, so it can be done. Also, you can have the stuff there and make it 'look' functional if you get the idea. I never had any dramas with my car

Thermoquads became bad news when they first started to burn the cars to the ground.

I have personaly had a friends car get turned to charcaol because the plastic bowl split causing an unstoppable flow of gas, which gets ignited and can only be stopped by turning the valve off at the tank. Not that your really thinking about that when the whole front end of your car is on fire :
