Exclamation Price Jump for Cruze MY 2012 with Hatchback Model. Pics.

Price jump for Holden Cruze

Price rises for locally built small car, hatchback to be priced identically to sedan.

Holden will lift the price of its high-selling Cruze small car from November when it introduces the new 2012 Model Year (MY12) range that includes the new hatchback model.

The sedan and hatch will be priced identically, but the MY12 Cruze asking price will increase by $250 on CD and CDX variants and $500 on SRi and SRi-V models as Holden moves to quell customer dissatisfaction over a lack of standard Bluetooth phone connectivity.

The current model Cruze is one of the only cars in the small car segment that doesn’t come with the hands-free phone technology as standard – it’s currently a $600 dealer-fitted option.

Advertisement: Story continues below

Holden’s director of marketing Simon Carr says the price hikes “take into account other new inclusions to be announced closer to launch”, but he admits not fitting it as standard equipment was an oversight.

“Bluetooth has become an increasingly important feature for many motorists so it made sense to make it standard on Holden’s second best-selling carline,” Carr says.

The brand will also swap two of the colours to the Cruze palette. The new hues are “Perfect Blue”, a solid blue based on Peter Brock’s “Formula Blue” (it replaces Voodoo), and the metallic teal seen on the Cruze hatch pictured which is known as “Chlorophyll” (replacing Poison Ivy). These two colours will also be available on the MY12 Commodore range.

2012 Holden Cruze sedan and hatch pricing
CD 1.8 litre petrol man/auto $21,240/$23,240
CD 1.4 litre iTi petrol man/auto $22,490/$24,490
CD 2.0 litre diesel man/auto $25,240/$27,240
CDX 1.8 litre petrol man/auto $24,740/$26,740
CDX 2.0 litre diesel man/auto $28,740/$30,740
SRi 1.4 litre iTi petrol man/auto $24,990/$26,990
SRi-V 1.4 litre iTi petrol man/auto $28,490/$30,490

I really have to say, those pictures you provided of the Cruze... They actually look quite good, except for the rear end! (sorry if thats off topic)

Agreed. For some reason, the cars that are released as a sedan and then converted to a hatch later on never seem to look right. The current Lancer is another example of this.

Assumed they all had Bluetooth as standard. Even the base model Getz on run-out sale for $12,990 has it I think?

Chlorophyll? More like Borophyll.. someone had to do it.

I have just bought one of the sriV cruze sedans. They're a good car with great economy. The Hatch looks good, The rear end doesnt seem to work right but it should be interesting.

Whats the ford focus alternative for this?.. In terms of price, weight, power, room etc..?

The Focus Titanium is more expensive, not turbo or have sat nav as standard, or full leather.
Then you have Euro build as against Holden build. Take your pick...

I actually think that Holden have done nice with the Cruze, and in my opinion it looks nicer than the new Focus. Very sexy looking hatch.

All though, I believe that the Cruze's *** looks like it was pulled straight from the Astra graveyard ...

Focus doesn't need a turbo as it makes at least 25% more power. 125 kw Vs 100 in the Cruze iTi.

When Holden started building the Cruze it was priced similar to the Korean built versions, but with a bit less equipment. But price has risen 2 times since then, so it looks like they kept the price down to start with to make it look like it wasn't much more expensive for locally made versions, and then jack up the price later to compensate for the higher build costs.

Was the Holden Camira Australian-made back in the day? Anyone reckon give the Cruze 10 years and it will go the way of the Camira.

What is wrong with the Cruze? And to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if it becomes the highest selling car in the country after the Hatch version is released.

The new fleet car of choice. Government departments are flocking to this car.
Cheap - tick
Diesel -tick
Australia made (close enough anyway) - tick

they have the market sewn up for govt fleet

Does anyone doubt that Cruze will now outsell Commodore and start going after Mazda 3?

Holden brought the Cruze in with every intention of lifting prices and equipment levels,
this is the biggest difference between the business plan for local Cruze and local Focus,
Ford based their plan around 65% base model production where as LV Focus showed the
buying trend was more like 65% Zetec and Ghia, something that really surprised Ford execs....

From my fathers experience with the Cortina (was his first car) yes it was terrible right from when he drove it out of the lot.

I think the Cruze will be ok, although it has already had a few recalls I think.

If they become popular with fleets then I think it's possible.

The hatch looks good but then again between this and the Focus? I'd rather the Focus. I have seen more and more of the new Focus around and they look pretty nice.

There isn't anything really wrong with the Cruze, it is just a car and really that's all it is meant to be. It doesn't bring anything innovative to the market. It is quote inoffensive and I think it is ok. Comparing it to the Camria? WTF is that?

The biggest drawpoint of the Cruze for me is that its Australian Assembled.

The largest point against it? Its a bastardised Astra.

The sedan looks OK, but the hatch does nothing for me. Same with the new Focus, actually.

Aren't these things CKD from Korea? If someone told me 5 years ago that Daewoo was on track to being number 1 small car I would have spat out my Wheaties.
I think the focus with that auto park thing is likely to appeal to many women who can't park to save their lives. It'd be interesting to see how Focus claws back against cruze, and frankly if Holden is anything to go by the numbers will drop once people start having problems, and start having to deal with Holden Service (which is quintessentially poo anyway).

It may have been designed by Daewoo, however it was engineered by Opel.

It should be remembered that the Cruze uses the same platform as the Astra.

I drove a Cruz over three days in Victoria and covered a fair bit of the place.

Without fear or favour, I can say the Cruz is the worst new/modern car I have driven.

It was the full option pack (leather, etc). The seats are INSTANTLY uncomfortable, the front end skitters and bangs in a really unsettling way when cornering on anything but smooth bitumen and the gear box is either hesitating and dropping back with alarming suddeness.

It's totally possible we just got a lemon but on a sample of one, I can't believe this car aspires to a class leading position.

There will be alot of very unhappy cruze owners when it comes time to trade them in. Best my mate can get for his is 10 grand anywhere in perth. Not bad dropping 14 grand on an ex demo in 4 months. Going to cost him about 6 grand to down trade his 2010 Cruze on a 2007 BF xr6, die hard holden man is now refinancing on a GT. Lol

Cruze and Mazda 3s are my favourite small cars. The Cruze is built like a tank and weighs more than a 90s Commodore. The Aussie Cruze has much better handling than the earlier Korean versions. The new versions should sell well being one of the cheaper small cars out there and now with bluetooth

Thats strange, I was under the suspicion that Holden were playing some of their funny games to try and keep non-new cruze prices from plummeting too much until they are further into the production cycle. You just have to look at websites like the following

http://www.carsguide.com.au/search/?...=225&type=cars

(last 5 cars on page) and wonder why one dealership would think they could sell year old used cars, for an average of $2000 less than the original new selling price. Probably wont see the true second hand price of a cruze until about 2012 when the first 3 year cycle is up.

Not completely disagreeing with you, but it's far better than Holden service is. The amount of pressure to upsell things like coolant flushes, brake fluid changes, wiper inserts, air con purification stuff etc etc is mind boggling. It's almost as if the Holden dealer doesn't pay a wage to service advisors, just the commission of the ancilliary stuff.
Haven't you found the same with your Holden dealer?
