Default Intersection Window Washers

I Done A Search On This Before Starting The Thread, No Luck.
==============================================

We have all come across them at the lights, when these people come over to wash your windscreen for a couple of bucks.

Some of us like them some of us hate them.

I don't care about any of that, what I want to know is if it is legal for them
to be doing that given all the obvious dangers.

They are always on busy intersections and today in particular they were either dodging traffic, slowing it down and even stopping it when the lights change as they scrambled to get off the road.

No it's not legal.
It's a good tax free earner though. Easily a hundred or so dollars a day.
I hate it when suddenly they appear with a squeegy and start washing your windscreen and you didn't ask for it to be done then they demand payment.

sadly though, i'd say most of them already have their hand out at centrelink, but find this as an extra income to do when they see fit or are particularly desperate.
It is definitely illegal to do that. i believe it has been the case for several years now. Not sure how often it gets policed though.

Not legal in NSW.
Can't remember the actual offences they can be charged with though.
I remember a couple of police friends of mine mentioning it while we were out once and approached by one.

As long as they wear a Hi-Vis vest, it should be ok.

Not a fan of them creeps. I use the washers and wipers at full speed if they don't listen.

The American term is jaywalking... but i dunno if its called the same here, im pretty sure there was a crack down once in one of the capitol cites years ago for people not using the crossing walks in the CBD... daresay its the same?

Hey they are doing something to earn money.

Not sitting on their bums on the dole waiting for other people to give them money for no reason until they are given the $200,000 a year job they deserve and were told they would get even if they fail school.

There was a large amount of media attention a few years ago to the windscreen washers that operate from the corner of Punt Road & Victoria Street in East Melbourne.

The police said they couldn't do much to stop it and that is kinda true, much like prostitution. Lock someone up and there will be another there straight away.

The last few times I've been through there I had a free windscreen wash and a thumbs up. I guess some of them don't even care for the money anymore?

I believe this dodgy enterprise has been made illegal in QLD.

About 5-10 years ago they were always at major intersections.

I remember someone came up to me and I said no. They started cleaning so I turned on the wipers. They were not happy. Losers...

Yeh but if every place that sold drugs on the side was banned there would be no nightclubs, pubs, clubs, taxis, railway stations, bus depots, cafes, fun parlours or whatever......

Bit like saying all car enthusiasts are hoons because you see so many on the street.

Noticed they were everywhere in Canberra when I was there for the summernats last year. Gave one fella a warm can of redbull and accidently spat on the old fella at about 60ks as we drove past.. The lady in the car next to us saw it and went off her head all the way down the road, I couldnt help but **** myself laughing..I felt bad and went back later and gave him a few dollars.

This is kind of like the bloke down at Surfers, he hangs a sign up saying something like " this is my only source of income, please donate " and build a sandcastle or two. Then easily makes $200 or $300 a day. Then without a doubt, I bet he's collecting a center-link payment.

Many years ago I saw a guy washing window In the middle of road. Lights changed and cars began to move off. This guy decided to run in-between moving cars. One hit his leg and he had to limp off the road. All that for like $1 or something.

Yeah its illegal in NSW i use to do it when i was a kid and the police use to chase us off sometimes.

I usually let them wash my glass and say hello if no one else has just to give them a hand as lets face anyone who is doing this is not really doing well in life.

It's dangerous and illegal.
I will not have some random person slop his dirty crap on my car, I let them know as much in a not so subtle manner.

they interviewed a guy on 6PR 882 talk back radio and the guy says he has earned up to $400/hour!!!!

HE went on to say some cops turned a blind eye whilst other cops had a pet hate with it and would pull over and chase him till they got him then take the money off him!

One motorist gave him $200 to treat his girlfriend.

I personally hate it, they lean on your car to get to the centre of the windscreen and do a crap job anyway.
Kids at our local deli do it too, I applaud their enthusiasm to work and earn monay but not on my car.

Never seen them in Brisbane, but they would get an earful if they tried.
My car is usually kept pretty clean, and if not it just has a bit of dust over it which is just about invisible from a distance unless it gets wet.
(unless of course it is raining, but they wouldn't be out then)

I would not want some careless window washer getting dirty water all over the guards/bonnet when it was previously clean.
If I wanted the windscreen cleaned I would do it myself with those wonderful little features called the windscreen wipes.

STOP/SLOW is only a two day course, and you get to watch Russell Crowe's really bad attempt at acting.... Personally i don't think its gotten much better..

I have never had to deal with the window washers but if I did they wouldn't get a cent from me. I didn't ask, I don't pay, simple as that.
