Default XR6, SV6 and 380 review

(If this is a repost please delete)
http://wheels.carpoint.ninemsn.com.a...Alias=wheelsau

sounds like the XR6 is the better car out of the three :hihi:

"Ford’s BF Falcon XR6 is a significantly more polished example of the car that won our 2002 Car of the Year. As such, the fact it wins this comparison should be no great surprise. What did surprise us, though, was the margin of its victory. The Broadmeadows-built sedan offers unbelievable sophistication for the money – particularly in its interior comfort, fabulous auto transmission and world-class suspension.

In fact, so good is the BF XR6, it warrants genuine comparison with European sedans worth double, even triple, its price."

WEll I gues that knocks 380 out of Wheels COTY.
Could this year be another "Lemon" year?

Personally, I thought the BF did enough to qualify for COTY.

Anyways, with the BF not there< I'm sure the 380 has a chance. If I'm bored one day, I might take on for a test drive, and see for myself.

How can the 380 be good enough for coty if its not as good as one of its main competitors? (which is basically a revised 2002/3 model -BA or maybe even 1999 model AU)

Because its an all new model, and when everyone stops thinking VRX vs Xr6, and thinking 380 vs XT, the 380 base model makes a suprisingly good package.

Otherwise, I dont really think that the changes made for the BA to BF XT are anything to write home about.

And just to remind everyone about what changed from BA to BF in the XT:

BF XT Sedan and Wagon

New front bumper
New tail lamps on sedan
New XT wheel cover
New soft-feel door grab handles with satin chrome inserts
New Titanium Stone Metallic finish on Interior Command Centre fascia, centre console and rear air vent register
New seat fabrics and trim inserts
New paint colours: Kashmir, Wired and Déjà Vu

You failed to mention a more powerful engine, upgraded auto plus better fuel economy and better NVH. These are the most important things.

What upgraded auto?

The engine power upgrade was more "evolutionary" than revolutionary.

With that line of thought, looking at the list of things you posted about BF changes, nothing there is 'revolutionary'.

New hubcaps - whoop-di-do. Minor visual stuff, so minor that a non car person struggles to tell the difference.

I like the BA / BF series, and if a BF if considered for COTY, cool, but it's not exactly re-writing how to make a revolutionary car.

I know why the 380 is elligable for COTY and BF not, as you say abve. my point is that the 380 cant be good enough for coty if its not as good as an upgraded competitor 3 years older.

Anyway, the announcement is in the next few weeks I think, so all will be told then.

The XT cannot get a new 6-speed auto as an upgrade unless you buy one with the 3 valve V8.

But the 4 speed auto is upgraded over the one in the BA.

It's just been "refined", It's not a brand new box that had to be engineered in.

I think he means the 4 speed had software tweaks, or something along the lines of that. *EDIT* I'm a slow poster tonight!

...

As for the evolutionary/revolutionary engine comment, I think the 190 has a different valvetrain & cams (infinitely variable? However I think the BA might have had the variable cams too) compared to the BA 182.

I'm aware of that. They changed the software and a few other things in the internals. I didn't say it was all new, it probably uses 90% of the same parts.
