Hi y'all
I recently bought a 2008 WQ Fiesta which I love to bits. (don't say that!) All the door locks work fine with the remote. By chance I tried the key in the driver's side door. Turning it to the left locks the car fine. Turning to the right nothing happens. It's as if some lever isn't connected. The car was repaired on the drivers side before I bought it. Does anyone know if this is likely to need another lock or could it be a missing linkage? Should I buy another second hand lock before taking it all apart? I'm worried that I won't be able to unlock the car if the remote battery goes flat some time in the future. Any help greatly appreciated. |

To answer my own question, the problem turned out to be that the driver's side door didn't have the right lock barrel. Maybe the door had been replaced at some time. Anyway, after buying a second hand lock with barrel and taking the door apart (no easy job) I was able to change and modify the wafers in the barrel to suit my key. This would have to be one of the most difficult jobs I have ever attempted. Changing a clutch had nothing on this. All good now. Cost me very little but gave me a lot of heart burn. Getting the inards out of and into a Ford Fiesta door certainly isn't any picnic. Try it some time. You'll save yourself an fortune and get grey hair. I'm already grey!

Well done.
And don't you feel proud that you "did it yourself"! Sounds like a ***** of a job. |
