Default XR8 Sprint, XR6 Turbo Sprint, XR6 Sprint names Trademarked

XR8 Sprint finale conjecture... that would be a nice send off. The GT without the badge.

Logic to me would dictate the Sprint tag would only identify with a more narrow Ford demographic. IMO........something more current, and relevant like XR6TF and XR8F, as in the last GT .....the GTF would be the way to go, regardless in what the last KW bragging writes will be. Make it the RPO swan song for FOA during 2016 and charge accordingly.

Cheers Mick

If the XR8 Sprint is going to be just a cosmetic dress up, I really don't see the point. It will be just a way for Ford to make an extra buck off the XR8.

They should increase the kw to differentiate from the standard XR8.

Parts bin wise it is probably easier and even cheaper to super tune what your currently making to previous levels, rather than add too many cosmetics

I think the real sprint models are the ex-highway patrol versions that can definitely 'sprint' with improved cooling setups.

Haha called it......that's the badge I was hoping for along time ago. Nothing extremely sensitive like the gtho, but certainly the modern car is a good enough modern muscle car weapon to wear the sprint badge with Honour. AWESOME idea.

What's the bet they give the XR8 the same tune as the GTF but rate it slightly lower like 340 or 345kw.

GTF owners will be a little salty if they did, not that ford would care as long as they are getting paid...

Maybe that's the reason why Ford won't build this (formal announcement is MIA) or the other good stuff that others on this forum want.

And Commodore is outselling 5 to 1.

Local Ford dealer said this rumour is BS, unless Ford make an official announcement.

Also said I couldn't order an XR8 anymore either.

This was at lunch time today 13/6

McGrath's again, show why I wont spend a cent on another car from them.

Salesman always act like they are doing you a favour.

Don't think Ford will do this.

The 335kw tune in a XR8 sprint is more than enough power.

Yeah I guess you have a point haha, a 351kw XR8 Sprint and say a 330kw XR6T Sprint would be a fitting tribute to the last of the Falcons

I'll take that bet. The 351 tune will not appear anywhere but in GTF.

Since Ford shouldn't upset the GTF owners by using a 351kw in the XR8, let's see them put something greater than 351kw for the final Falcon V8.

They built an xr8 sprint years ago, why does it need trademarking? Was it not trademarked before?

If not trademarked might Holden trump them and release a commodore xr8 sprint?

Trademarked on April 1....Ford practical joke.

Trademark could have expired, you have to renew it every ten years.

If Ford did in fact decide to build such cars and to use those higher tunes I doubt there would be any mention of a higher KW rating over and a above the 335 and 310 KW ratings................in keeping with Foa HO tradition releasing a more powerful homologation option and keeping quiet about it would be the perfect way to bookend Australian manufacturing

Cheers Mick

So whats everyone's opinion on which car is the best buy? 8 or Turbo Sprint models. I know it will depend on specs and price. I've got a soft spot for the V8 but the Turbo is just a cracker of a car. One of the key things for me to consider are reliability. I've heard of supercharger issues with the XR8. Any thoughts on this? Also the cost difference will be an interesting factor. What do you think will be the more sought after car in the years to come? Looking forward to your opinions!

That's a tough one musicmick, obviously I'm biased (see the footnote at the bottom of this post) - the turbo 4.0 is an incredible motor, probably the best ever Aussie powerplant, and all versions of it from XR6T to G6ET and beyond are modern classics.

When I bought a Sprint, I was just trying to cross my love of an old ED six cylinder sedan our family had when the kids were young, the need for a part time second car, and looking for something Fun. Maybe even classic. What I got was an absolute mongrel animal of a car, one that made me wind the windows up then thrilled me then scared me witless. And kept me coming back. And leaves a smile on my face like no other.

V8 for me.

Just out of interest, the original ED Sprint was said to have shipped (at Ford Australia's great expense) the 1993 Mustang Cobra SVO motor, done by Watson Engineering in Michigan. So, it was different from the Tickford built EB GT V8 (correct me if I'm wrong). Have there been any other Falcons, ever, that have had a top line Mustang powerplant?

The EB GT engine was built overseas also.

Interesting, my copy of 'Tickford - The Joy of Driving' suggests that the 5.0 V8 for EB GT was part of an engine development program done by Tickford at Milton Keynes by David Bolton. US-produced after tuning there?

Totally get this post....but I'm a turbo guy myself and I still couldn't choose between the two modern sprints if pushed. They both seem Amazingly good value to me.

It doesn't seem like it was ever trademarked...but i found the site where the new trademarks have been lodged, as funny as it sounds being lodged on april fools...but why would they trademark the xr6 'turbo' sprint, when they've never made one before ?

This one shows the three trademark names in the results (searched for the word 'sprint')

And this one shows the lodgement date and status etc ( basically the same for all three models).

Or? - could there be another conspiracy theory that there will be a Turbo Sprint, XR8 Sprint and a N/A XR6 Sprint?!

Has anyone done a search for names for the Territory and ute?

The April fools day lodgement date for the "Sprint" tag says it all for me, someone at Ford is having a laugh........I still think something like a simple "F" for final has more chance of getting up.

Cheers Mick
