Default other brands info

my stars we are spoilt on this forum, so many members, so much info, so much positive advice.
I logged onto an Aus Toyota Rav and also a Subaru forums ...what a bunch of deadbeats, nobody looks, nobody appears to be on.
So back to you guys.
I mentioned on another thread about looking for a replacement for the wifes old Outback, I have narrowed it down to
Mitsubishi Outlander,
Rav4
Subaru Forrester

Petrol, auto, and she is now convinced about Sat Nav.

But how do I go finding what years and model/badge each of these had the Sat Nav.

Honestly, I would suggest either a standalone GPS or using a tablet paired to a phone for navigation. Once a car is out of statutory warranty you’re less assured of dealer support for things like navigation updates.

I agree, they just stop supporting this sort of stuff and you have to rely on the manufacturer for updates which may not happen very often.

Dedicated GPS on windscreen - or car with supports Android Auto/Apple Carplay so you can use your phone GPS on the infotainment setup.

x3. Get an aftermarket carplay/android auto unit or whatever, better than any manufacturer offering.

thanks for this info regards sat nav.
Interestingly at the moment my head is towards the Forrester, mainly had such a great run from the old Outback.
Will be in big smoke this weekend and do some car spotting and bum warming see what tickles my fancy.

Just get a car with Apple Car Play. Pair the phone. You then have choice of Apple or google maps. I do two jobs. Retail delivery to homes. And pick up folk in a min bus from homes. I use Car Play in my car with Apple maps. The infotainment system talks to me and shows a map etc. With the passenger pick up it’s just Apple maps on the phone with holder.
The infotainment system with talking and maps just works brilliantly.
Don’t worry about Sat Mac.

Yes that’s right same set up. It’s bloody brilliant.
It’s like
Go past this light
Turn left at this light etc etc
With arrows and map on the screen
So yes android works too with car play

It amuses me looking at say Ford Focus on forums where the owners are getting screwed round by dealers with Sat nab updates.
Why bother.
Just use car play and Apple or google maps.

If you use the Territory as a yardstick, updating the plastic fascia plus head unit while maintaining full connectivity / function is about $1300-$1500 give or take installer fees.

My missus has a couple of year old Mazda CX5 with car play in it.
We made a point of getting the SatNav card in it as well so she had it.
The factory Satnav is constantly out of date.
She now uses Waze on the car play. Real time traffic and police updates , automatic diversion around trouble spots and the best bit is the talking dog giving you directions.
I bought an aftermarket Android auto headdeck for my 4x4 so I get the same benefits now.
Factory Satnav isn't worth the premium it costs for you to enter.

We had on 04 Prado Grande, which had a Sat Nav, I thought it was great as My Territory gear had nothing despite being newer..
It wasn't long until we were driving though Paddocks in places like Eastlink..

Sync II in the Territory was great as well until my warranty ran out and Ford stopped updating..

these systems I thought were much better than anything apple or Android offered at the time,

but the android/google systems now are pretty good.

Saying that Im pretty pleased with the Navigation in the BMW I can purchase an update for $89 online if I want

Have fun .... dealers are usually empty now with limited stock to look at.
Gone are the days of buy off a lot now (as I just found out).

If you order ... expect over 12 month wait (and for some Toyotas like the Rav4 .... nearly 2 years wait for a car you ordered)

You can in your budget, the Kia Picanto povvo spec - 1.25L of naturally aspirated FURY

With a mighty 4 speed auto to really stretch out the rubber band for all its 62KW/120NM

Has an 8" infotainment system with Apple car play and android auto too even in povvo spec.

I had a diesel MY14.5 Outlander with the built in navigation.

I don't know how the system differs to phone based ones but it would still track the motion of the car accurately 10 levels below ground in a car park...

Perhaps it was somehow connected to the vehicle and was able to track the movements that way? As opposed to the phone GPS which would disconnect as soon as you got out of sight of the sky.

I miss my Outlander - bloody great car for the money.

Android Auto and Apple CarPlay do the exact same thing, and are a step above any manufacturer's own system in that it will be user friendly and updated.

Both our Car's have manufacturer Sat Nav but having CarPlay available, its just heaps better. All of your options should have this as an option (assuming your looking at new or near new) so it leaves you with the option of buying whichever one you like to sit in/drive the most...

If your looking at a model that didnt have it from the manufacturer, you can get it retrofitted to cars as well, as long as they have a screen. My 2017 SSV Redline didnt have it as an option, but when I did my stereo upgrade, I got Apple CarPlay/Android Auto fitted aftermarket and it was worth every cent...

My daughter and fiancee just bought a 18mnth old focus off Maughen Thiem. He had a 2013 impreza as a trade. I think they managed to knock about $500 off plus on road costs waived. Car was advt for $27k + on roads.

Dealers hold nearly all the cards at the moment however they do still want to move stock. I don't think waiving warranty will buy you much. Can't hurt to ask though.
