Importing wheels

Hey hey,
Has anyone got any first hand or reliable knowledge on importing wheels from America? From what I can gather if they are priced at below $1000 there shouldnt be any tax on them? The ones Im looking at are in the $900's, does this mean I can just get them sent over, they will go through customs and continue on their way to my house?
I've had stuff sent over before but its all been under $500 so haven't had to deal with anything, I just dont want to be stuffed around with customs and brokerage fees etc if something happens with it otherwise I'll just find a shop to do it for me at a bit extra cost

personally i think just getting an agent to do would be a lot easier. coz if anything goes wrong, its on their heads not yours

Just fly over there and buy them bring them back on the plane Its very cheap to do so and you get them instantly.

Anything under $1000 does not get charged GST.

Anything over $1000 you will have to pay GST

The problem will be in the freight. I got 2 subs sent over from the states and it was $250 shipping.

I have bought a few sets of wheels from the UK and as long as it states the wheel price is under a thousand dollars you shouldn't have any problems.

I've never had a problem and have even bought wheels over $1000 and just had them break up the price so that the shipping charge is higher and the wheels come under $1K.

Sometimes a box will have checked by customs tape wrapped around it where it has been checked.
On two occasions I was also sent letters from DHL asking for a fee of $40 or $50 for quarintine processing fees after the item had been delivered (they check your item and then try and charge you for it), if an envelope with DHL shows up, just write RTS, No longer at this address and post back.

I got my Enkeis from America through EBay. $1100 plus just under $300 shipping. Can't recall any tax issues and UPS handled all the delivery straight to my door.

Yeah as above, under $1000 as a DECLARED value they will not even look at it, and you wont be charged GST and all the other customs charges. (Handling fees are added to the total of the purchase also, then you pay GST on purchase price + fees).
So if they declare the wheel at any value under 1000 you should be fine.
Alot of Americans are reluctant to do this for insurance or their own tax purposes however. I import alot of animation artwork from the USA and have dealt with all kinds of sellers. Some expensive art that I was expecting to pay import fees for they put down values of $50.00 so i didnt have to pay a thing, however there was no insurance on it!

Ive come across a guy on the jdm forums who does alot of wheel imports and just so happens mrr are one of his regulars so he is able to do it for me for basically the same price I was able to do it myself. I organised with him today to get them, they should be here next week. Thanks for all the help guys!
