Since forever chrome trimmings / wheels etc on cars have signified "higher spec" and more prestige models.
Car makers often chrome up the grill, door handles, mirrors, lights and other trim and even wheels in a attempt to set it apart from the mainstream models. So what about many of the chrome aftermarket dress up items or even genuine oem chrome bits on our fords? The more chrome the better? |

Chrome within reason is good...too much or badly chromed plastic trims can often look tacky and in my opinion devalue a car.

Lol yes I've seen quite a few chrome wrapped cars. Most look pretty good actually. But as for chrome....most factory cars get the amounts right. Adding aftermarket chrome is risky.....do it at your own peril

Chrome looks awesome if used as an accent with the right car colour.
Some colours work better than others with Chrome.

Too much chrome, then you can't really see the car from the chrome. Mite as well drive around in a mirror. Reminds of the Cartel leaders that dip their AK-47's in gold.

back in the early 80's, chrome doorhandles on falcons and other cars signified the low-end models.

Not enough chrome for my liking, so many cars these days are just so bland looking without some chrome on the body work, I've probably alluded to this before............. I miss the old days.

I like a little bit of chrome. Too me it means "luxury" but I must admit I dislike chrome wheels on modern cars. The again I am not a fan of black wheels either! Machined or painted for the win.

I parked my bf falcon next to a vf hsv and the bf just looks so understated. The hsv has highlights everywhere you look, but bf is just all one colour and plain looking.
Look at chrysler 300c, chrome all over the place and it has real presence about it. These days it seems the performance models are putting less spoilers and more chrome. |

Chrome and all like as on Holden HK-T-G Premier yes that looks great but with out it then they look like just Belmont rubbish no matter what they do.
Just look at them Premier hub caps they looked good on a car new. |

In saying that i cant bring myself to fit a chrome garnish on my octane xr.. nor can i fit chrome grill or even chrome pin striping.
The bf xr, all you can really do is a set of wheels and keep it clean |

Personal taste and vehicle dependent. Some vehicles need chrome or other features to break up otherwise dull designs or to correct lines which made sense in the design stage that look dull in production. The answer is there is no answer to the question and it may be a question that would have been more engaging in the late 70s when plastic started to rule.

Chrome only belongs on steel wheels and steel bumpers
 Isn't everything else just a plastic film anyway Too much is trashy, less is more. .

An old girl friend complained that I spent more time cleaning the chrome on my harley than on her, I suggested if she wanted more attention she could get herself chromed... like I said an old girlfriend
Chrome Rocks, but todays chrome is rubbish compared to the carcinogenic chemical chrome from 30+ years ago |

I'd love to know how they did the chrome in the old days...from the train as we drive past a particular bit of bush there sits a few sad old shells of cars...an FB Holden, a Prefect from the '40's, a couple of other English cars. Been through dozens of bushfires and the shells are covered in surface and more serious rust.
However, the chrome...especially noticeable on the FB...is virtually showroom shiny. The old Holden is a brown rusted crap bucket...but the bumpers and side strips and taillight surrounds all look nearly perfect. I'm going to go for a drive out and get a close up look at them some day. As the sticker I got made up to put in the back window of our WB ute says: "Steel body, chrome bumpers, cast iron engine...just as nature intended"...
