If he does reveal himself they will just get a new Stig to keep it fun and mysterious. Its happened before.

I would like to read a Stig autobiography though, cant be any worse than the Top Gear Wheres Wally book

I thought he had been revealed on an episode I saw a while back and it was Schumacher or was that just a con?

While I can understand his frustration at not being able to tell anyone who he is (who wouldn't want to bask in that glory), he's been smokin somethin funny if he thinks anyone really cares who he is. It would be like the person who played "Humphrey Bear" writing a book about their real life - who the hell would care!

"The Stig" is basically a ficticious character played by a probably talented racing driver. None of that person's personality plays any part in the popularity of the Stig character.

It is the mystery of The Stig that makes him so much fun. He is an enigma, defined only by the audience's imagination.

He's a driving superhero purely because our imaginations (fuelled by Clarkson, Hammond and May's outrageous descriptions) let him be so.

Give him a name, and we all learn about the real person's racing career, and not even Mansell, Senna or Schumacher could hope to live up to mythical, almost supernatural abilities of "The Stig".

If we can google him/her and find out they didn't win every race they ever took part in, then the bubble is burst.

That was a joke. Schumacher was there to take that Ferrari around the track because they weren't handing it over to anyone else.

Totally agree with you Aussie AV..
To show your face as the Stig would be pointless...

X2 totally agree.

Although I can see why he wants to write a book..the other three have all put something out and made a quid.
Shame only one of them has any writing skill.(well perhaps the Stig might!)

He can't very well sign a contract and enjoy all that comes with it and then cry foul over his share of the pie when he gets jealous.

Suck it up buddy, you signed a contract to remain anonymous - honor it.

I smell a rat in that story. More than a few people know who the stig is and if he is named publicly they just change him. They did it with Black stig. The current Stig is Ben Collins. This smells like a publicity stunt.

+ 1 for BBC publicity stunt, the reason we never see Stig's face is that he is more than one person...

I agree to a point but its not likely that they need the ratings, it is shown around the world on BBC World and verious networks. Huge money spinner hence the masive buget, certnay the buget exceeds the revenur rased by the unique way the BBC is funded [TV license in the UK]

Another reason the Stig cannot be Schumacer.. Back when Schumacer was driving for Ferrari in F1 the stig took Alonso's Renault F1 car for a drive.....no way in hell would Renault allowed Schumacer in their car.

My guess as to who the Stig is and always has been is Alain Prost

I read somewhere that the Stig on that occasion was Heikki Kovalainen. I’m not sure as to how true it was though.

Not really - how many successful female race car drivers are there? Can anyone name even one? in rallying, there's what's her name, but she's navigator, and then the other what's her name - also navigator. One in Indy car, none in V8 supercars, one in Fujitsu, none in F1 etc etc etc.

So, by and large, women cannot (or perhaps it is simply do not) drive fast.

Anyway, back to Stig. Based on the law of averages and the lack of bumps, has to be a bloke. Prost is a good theory (about the right height).

i doubt it's anyone high profile.. why would they be complaining about not being able to do a book deal for the cash if they are high profile....

it's probably just some no body... who had mild success in racing.. it's all an ideal...
