Default Detroit Documentary

It’s 1.15hrs long but it does provide a good history of Detroit and discusses the various issues the city has gone through along with urban explorers showing some of the abandoned architecture of the Motor City.

Thanks pmacc - a very interesting film indeed, especially in light of the present state of our vehicle manufacturing industry.

Thanks for the link, one of the best documentary's I've seen in a while.

Seeing how much of what was once a huge growing city has been reclaimed by nature is like something of a post apocalyptic movie, very eye opening and shows how fragile the quality of life we have all become so accustomed to is.

If Detroit is any indication, we have some rough days ahead.

Detroit is coming to a city near you, even Dubai. Its only a matter of when. Europe is lucky in that they have many buildings made from stone which is effectively time proof. Steel reinforced concrete is only a short term material. Odd that most of our stone goes to building rubbish quality bush roads instead of houses that are forever.

100 years from now every bit of concrete standing now will be fallen down, every bridge, every road, every building. We won't have the resources to build everything twice. Its well worth imaging the state of the worlds great cities then.

replace detroit with the united states of america - same issues.

huge debt
unfunded pensions
the stupidest implementation of social programs (not say social programs are bad but what they are doing is)
make life unatractive for business and inovation
solution is to borrow more money
repeat

=
fail

Detroit's number of unemployed is nearly twice the national average, the city is in massive debt and the police force is way overstretched/has no real control.
8 mile road is the dividing line between the rich and poor, gang violence erupts either side of that road every single day.
Hard drugs are Detroit's industry now... and it has been that way for some time.

What a big come down from a city with everything going for it to disaster zone,
there is something to be said for having government run councils that employ people , even low skilled people, even if it runs at a loss.
Letting people slide into poverty and crime to support themselves ends up a huge and much more expensive problem that may take generations to repair.

If you want to see current day Detroit, then watch the newly released Documentary 'Burn', where a film crew follow the city's Fireys for 12 months...
