Hello to All,
Purchased a BA xr8 Ute that blew its engine with previous owner. He had a garage install what he tells me is a 290kw motor from an early FG xr8 other than removing the alternator can I find out the engine number? Also after a GT tune at a reputable garage now 6-7 months later I’m getting bad pinging under acceleration, what should I be looking at? I’m an amateur so keep in mind lol. Thanks. |

The engine code information label, located on the side of the LH valve cover towards the rear, contains the engine build date, engine plant code and the engine code.
As long as you are using good fuel, I'd take it back to the tuner as it shouldn't be pinging.

Yeh I thought so too but when I initially had it done it was fantastic but like I said it’s months later and it’s started.I run on bp or shell premium always.Ive seen videos of people with similar issues just not falcons so I’d assume the mafs sensor isn’t my problem.
Thanks I’ll check for the engine info now. |

Just to remind you, there is no maf sensor, its a MAP sensor.

We asked him if the engine had actually been called “Seagull” and how that came about. “Actually it was just call “Gull”, because I named it that. Because we knew it was going to poo on everything”. |

I'm assuming it was first tuned in cold weather?
Hot air temps now not helping with pinging? Take it back to the tuner. |
