Default the most reliable car you have ever owned

ok i thought it would be interesting to see what peoples real world experiences are.going off the experts toyota will romp this one in and id say it should be about 20-25% higher than any other manufacturer pretty easily.like i said can we keep this to your own real world experiences so this can be a genuine and honest vote of real world people not journalists etc
this should give the toyota loyal something to crow about, lets do it

Most reliable for me: 2001 Proton Satria, 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer and Holden Gemini were all faultless really

Most unreliable? Mk2 Escort and my XW

But I love my ford's the most lol

Not an interesting or exciting car but my wife's 98 Pulsar was pretty good. In 10 years & 130,000 km the only non scheduled maintenance was replacing 2 split CV boots and the heater fan resistor. Total of about $80 parts. Regular servicing every 10,000 km, tyres every 30,000km or so and a set of front brake pads at 120,000km, and that was it.

My wifes Mazda Astina is now nearly 14 years old and after 177000km is still going strong. Only just starting to use a bit of oil, about 400ml between services. No major dramas....yet.

My XD had over 400k when i sold it and never had any real problems.....loved that car!!!

Where is the Subaru option?

Both my old MY01 Subaru Liberty GX wagon and my current MY07 Liberty GT are by far the most reliable and nicest cars I have owned. The only issue I had with my GX wagon was when a small hose on the external trans cooler that leaked. Got that fixed under warranty and never spent any more on it in repairs other than standard regular servicing. Owned that car for 3 years.

My current Liberty GT has been excellent too. But I havent had that for that long so too early to say.

My most reliable Ford has been my AU, but that's coz I was **** about it. Fixed any leak that it had, serviced it more than it needed, and went a bit over board.

Well I'd have to say my most reliable ride was a HR Premier I got off my mum back in the late 80's. It was bog stock untouched and she'd driven it around for about 8 yrs without a hiccup and when I got hold of it I changed the diff to a 3.36 and dropped a 4 spd in it and that old bus got me around on a set of 13" fat chromies for over 7 years and never missed a beat. I don't know how many miles it had done but I saw the clock roll over to 000000 and it was at about 35000 again when I donated it to a mate as I was moving up to NT and new it wouldn't pass an inspection. He flogged it mercilessly for another 3 years and after I came back from NT I borrowed it one day and the oil pressure went away for some unknown reason. One second everything was good, the next second the aux. oil guage I'd fitted years before dropped to 0 and we finally had to do an engine swap. Next would have been a HQ Kingswood 253/4spd. It never stopped. Great cars both of them.

This poll probably needs to have Nissan, Subaru, Honda and Mitsubishi as options. They are probably by far more common around here than a few of those options.

Anyways it's hard to compare because I owned a 89 TX5 Ghia when I was on my Ls and most of my Ps.

Apart from a gearbox I don't think it had any mechanical issue (I still suspect that this was due to the mechanics since it blew gears after a service when the shifter bushes were changed) but it was already old when I bought it.

It was a great car in any case and would make the perfect daily if I could justify the cost of owning two cars which being fairly young at the time I could not. I actually drove it more than the WRX before I sold it.

While I bought my 03 WRX in 06, I have not had any mechanical issue.

Apart from regular maintenance I've only had to get the security system re-soldered (it is well known it is a POS but has been fine since) and had to replace the ignition barrel which was due to having a lot of crap on my keyring.

I would say it has been reliable but not cheap.

I once owned a 5 speed manual EA Fairmont Ghia 3.9 MPI. I bought it from Bryan Byrt in 1989.

I drive it almost every day on dirt roads, in mud, through floods, on the highway, on back roads.
I went to buy a new one when it was 3 years but they did not make manuals anymore so I just kept driving it.
I washed it once a year whether it needed it or not and changed the oil when I changed the tyres and just kept diving it.
It would only just do 200km/h so most of the time it was between 120 and 150 except on dirt when I would usually slow to 100 but it was a good car and I just kept driving it.

Unfortunately the aircon failed and need regassing in 1997 and as the the gas I needed was full of clorofluro FnCs it was not worth converting it so after 9 years and over 300,000 km I bought an EL Ghia auto.

I used to see it still getting about but that was over a decade ago so I think has retired.

NOTHING I have ever owned has ever bees as dependable as my old EA.......

2010 lancer was an awesome little car, never had 1 problem with it in 2 years, sold it to buy a new fg xr6 turbo ute which i regretted from day 1,new falcons are rubbish quality, constantly getting diffs and whatnot replaced under warranty because of poor build quality.
Ill have to say the turbo ute is the most unreliable ive ever owned, especially for a new car anyway,id never buy a new ford again.
i didnt vote because mitsi wasnt an option...
Mitsubishi make good reliable cars

It's not there.

Morris Minor. A 1957 model that we used to own. It had a full service history...even the original sale dockets...and the engine had never been touched, but well serviced. It never let us down, and we used it as a daily driver.

Next would be an old 1982 Rodeo "Long Bed" ute we owned...petrol engine, two wheel drive, four speed manual on the column. No matter the abuse, no matter the weight we piled into it, no matter the fact it lived out in the weather 365 days a year, it just kept plugging along without complaint.

All the modern stuff we've had has let us down in some way or another...the G6E has of course been great...but then it's only 2 years old, it would damn well want to be.
