Thumbs up Fifth Gear on HD 72

HD 72 will screen Fifth Gear. No start date given. Be good to get another car show. Not the usual reality crap.

Didnt 5th gear just get cancelled in the UK?

Gotta love channel 7 showing a show for the first time after it has been cancelled. :

Better than nothing IMO. I haven't seen a single episode so I'm looking forward to it.

its not a bad show. Tiff and Jason Plato are great to watch as they are both racers, Vicky is cute, but there area couple of other presenters that just iritate. but they test a variety of cars...mundane stuff to performance cars.

Tiff is ok provided there's not a woman in the segment. If there is, he just turns into the guy with the overcoat and a bag of boiled lollies.

I can't watch Vicky talk for more than a few seconds. Those lips have a life of their own.

The two clowns who sit in the studio give me the irrits.

The guy who thinks we're not noticing him going balder by the day who does the cheap car segments... tv death. Boring person hosting a boring segment.

Jason, only good thing about that show - interesting, intelligent and can drive the wheels off anything.

Totally agree with Rodp

Tom Ford (Fat Bloke) and the other spikey haired toothpick are annoying to watch

Tiff and Jason are the only reason I would watch that show

Who is the main host, older sort of guy, he gives me the total irits the way he forces his words.

Other than that, I quite like the show, its good how they review the cheap cars too.

It's got to be Tiff (front right), he gives me the irits also. gcg2503's on the money with regards to fat bloke and going bald guy (the making car's do wheelies segment puts them together with disastrous effect).

One more vote here for better than nothing, they tend to be more about the cars which is a bonus over Top Gear.

it always amazes me the way people get so bitchy about fifth gear. To be honest i far prefer it to the forced and very staged/scripted 'hilarity' of top gear. Tif talks a little differently yes but he knows his stuff, very well, and is a sensational driver, having briefly driven F1 in the early 80's, among many other categories.

Plato is also an extremely good driver, being an ex championship winning 'smash em up' british touring car driver. He has personality, and it works well with Tiff, and on the show in general.

Tom is an acquired taste, i used to hate him but after seeing many seasons, now find him relatively amusing in the right light.

Vicky is a nut, in a good way, she seems like fun and can also drive pretty well.

Yes they test the mundane and the exotic, which makes the show good. I've never seen laborious rehearsed interviews with celebrities on the show, it's always straight to the point.

I don't mind top gear, but i would prefer fifth gear any day of the week, and i know i'm in the minority, why, i haven't worked out yet. The only thing they don't do, which top gear does, is wreck stuff. Is that why?

They're both good car shows, so why would anyone complain?

I'm certainly not complaining, thats great news. I still prefer Top Gear, but Fifth Gear is a fantastic show. Tiff and Jason are awesome drivers... (except that day when plato crashed the monaro and brock didn't get to drive his comeback race! lol)

Its a damn sight better than just about any other car shows that are out there... Both Top Gear & Fifth Gear airing on free-to-air Australian TV? Hell yeah!

and yes it is ironic that it's picked up on FTA here after it's canned. It was probably the only time we could afford to buy the rights.

16 series, and axed, bit of a shame.

It's humorless and an overall lack of charisma from most of the cast hurts them more than not wrecking things. If Clarkson decides never to drive a truck through a brick wall, it won't stop me from watching. Top Gear is an entertainment show that happens to be about cars, Fifth Gear is a car show that doesn't contain much entertainment. My last GF would always sit and watch Top Gear with me but couldn't tolerate Fifth Gear for more than a few minutes. The axing surely isn't due to the show being successful with a large and vocal following.

The best segments are the Jason v Tiff challenges. The old model vs new model around their poor excuse for a track is mildly interesting. The rest is differing levels of mediocre. Their test drives are more factual and informative but lack the humor and entertainment of the Top Gear team. End of the day, I don't care about a clinical review of a car I'll never be able to afford, I want to see it being flogged, praised or damned in an entertaining way - which Fifth Gear rarely pulls off.

yes well it's all down to personal preference.

on the flip side of the coin, my girlfriend can't stand watching top gear for more than 5 seconds, but she is more than happy to watch fifth gear, in fact she quite enjoys it.

Clarkson is basically THE reason that i don't enjoy Top Gear as much.

I much prefer 5th gear. It's not trying to be a comedy show with cars in it. as mentioned before. It's more about the CARS.
never forget them trying to decide the best hot hatch. Tiff drove them so hard he wore the print off the sidewalls of the tyres.
If you are looking fr a laugh, don't bother with it.
but if you want to see a show that tests cars with REAL drivers. it's a must watch.

As has been said if you like Cars rather than talking $#!T & lots of laughs then 5th Gear > Top Gear.

The M3 V C63 Test is a cracker.

Unfortunately, the new Ch 7TWO is not a High Definition channel ~ it is a low bitrate Standard Def channel, much like CH9's GO! channel.

Networks are now allowed to air 3 different channels, but only one can be HD, which will still be 7HD.

Even the "new" tv series being advertised for 7TWO will only be aired in Standard Def ~ this includes LOST, HEROES and 24.
