Cheap, reliable, small cars.

Hey guys, got a friend who's looking around for a cheap car to get around in. She doesn't have much money (around a grand), and the cheaper to run the better.

Just wanting some opinions on some older reliable cars that won't break the bank getting around.

Definently doesn't have to be a blue oval (note: reliability, lol) and doesn't really matter on age, as long as it won't break down.

She can drive manual, but only got auto licence, so a solid trans would be a nice addition.

She's not afraid of an ugly car either, seens she's been driving around a bog stock standard, brown VK on gas lately :MrT_anim:

AE82 Corolla's. If you can get one with EFI that would be a bonus. White and lowered they don't look to shabby.

AE92s are starting to go for around 1500 but for a base model carbie.

My mates got a Ford laser (or Mazda 323) $550, no problems with it whatsoever as it is very simple and runs on $20-$30 fuel per week (every day driving), we are all so suprised with the economy it gives, that his brother also bought one (laser ghia) for $700

mate you can't go wrong with an old corolla. I have a ke70 '84 as a daily driver which hasn't let me down for the last 14 years, it's been half way around australia and I absolute flog & punish the hell out of it day in day out and it just won't break!!! Oh yeah bonus is that it runs on ULP.

Any AE82 rolla for a grand would be the most drifted and crap piece of poo out there, a good AE86 will cost 7g upwards!

Mate I dont know what you are on about, no WAY I would pay 7g for an AE86. I paid $3800 for my 89 ae92, never gave me any trouble for two years.

ae92 csi is the way to go, my csx was good but the old carby engine was too slow for me. csi has fuel injection, reliable and not likely to be flogged. An sx or a gti would be great fun, but more likely to have had a hard life. Cheap to run, insure and repair, and IMHO an ae92 seca in good condition is a good looking car

i agree with what most peeps are saying, get a toyota corolla, early 90's. Those things, like most toyotas, are unbreakable.

As basically said an 80's 90's if your lucky Toyota corolla or Corona are almost indestructible. I've got mates that have faced them on brick walls and put a brick on the accelerator and the motor wont go. cheap to run and reliable as all hell! can't go wrong!

Cheers guys.. I'll keep an eye out for a good corolla at the right price.. And keep the Datsuns and Lasers/323's in my mind as well =)

just dropped the price a bit, and it is negotiable. we could probably let it go for around 1600 or so. whereabouts in vic are you?
