Default New season of Big Brother

When you just thought we where safe from crappy TV shows like "Big Brother", you where wrong, now everyone is going to be a contestant in Australia:

First we have the internet filter, being proposed by Stephen Conroy, which has much opposition to the idea, he is still going ahead with it, you can research into that one yourselves.

Now, the Government wants access to your emails and web browsing history:

http://apcmag.com/govt-may-record-us...email-data.htm

More on the web browsing:

http://www.arnnet.com.au/article/349...itoring_grows/

http://www.arnnet.com.au/article/349..._web_browsing/

Quote:
The Federal Government is considering the introduction of a system that would force ISPs to record browsing histories of every Internet user in Australia.
I'd like to hear everyones opinion on the matter.

More and more the lowest common denominator in our society are causing our freedoms to slowly become non-existant. I'm sure this stems back to child pornography and other illegal activity but unfortunetly the government will use this as the key selling point when in fact it will be as the internet filter will be, used to pedal the politicians own views on what is acceptable in society.

We've seen it with a certain SA politician and the video game rating system, all politicians have a personal agenda and in a way are working to push that moreso than the agenda put them by their constituants.

This is an election year so we'll continue to see more legislation and more politicians pedalling that come out of the woodwork.

I'm an adult, and therefore I should be able to look up whatever I want that is within the law.
I don't want the government sticking their noses into my business.

This is one of many reasons why I will vote against Rudd. All this gestural crap is just a smokescreen to hide an absolute inability to follow through on any of his election promises, or to achieve anything worthwhile.

If it does pass, I might move elsewhere. This is one cue from China I didn't want to take. When Rudd is kicked out, I hope he moves to China and never comes back.

Conroy is a Senator for Victoria. He has shown total disregard for public opinion with his agenda.

There are only two ways to stop him.

1) Vote him out.
2) Put him in opposition.

1) can only be done by Victorians at the election later this year (Conroy was elected in 2004).
2) can be done by all Australians at the same time.

So if you support the current Federal Government but disagree with Conroy and live in Victoria you know what you have to do........

Agree 100%, the problem is most voters dont take the time to understand politics let alone what the impact of voting has.. most just vote for who ever hands out the biggest presents, or vote against who ever makes hard un popular decisions...

Taking the party politics out of it.

In a Senate election each party puts up a number of candidates. If you support the party but not him then vote the way you wish to except put him last.

Regardless of what happens there are always more Senate candidates than positions available so you are not voting against "your" party, you are actually making it stronger by removing an idiot.

I am very sure that all party leaders have elected members that they would love to just "replace".......

I reckon even if Labor pulls some miracles and manages to keep power for the next election, Conroy will end up getting the *** because theres a LOT of people on the "Whirlpool Australian Broadband Forum" who want him gone, you might say its just a few fanboys on the internet, but there is heaps of them who all share the same opinion.

The problem I reckon is that no one party has all the answers, but theres only two you can vote for right? Libs/Labor? But we better keep this one on topic before it gets closed.

that is why there are preferences. if one of the main parties gets in due to the smaller parties preferences, in theory the smaller party has some influence
if you do not like one of the main parties, then you vote for who you believe has the right idea - it of course, does not matter if you do not vote though

Interesting I never got time to ring the ABC last week, but conroy was on in Perth and was going on about the filter. Then he let slip that filters are used in other countries successfully on a VOLUNTARY basis. Now I believe he said no to voluntary filters and that we must all have it no matter what. I wanted to ring and question him about it but wasn't able to. As for montiroing what I look at. If it comes in I will give up internet. I would rather be back in the so called dark ages than allow the government to monitor what I am doing. I am hopeful other Australian like myself will vote these idiots out, or if and that is if, it ever comes into affect we boycot the internet.

So I am very curious, based on the original post, why is every one so concerned?
If the government is so keen on accessing our email and internet usage, why are so many of us so readily happy to be posting on this forum???

In most instances (If not all) of him being interviewed on radio, calls are not taken from listeners. Same goes for TV. When he appeared on Sunrise, the producers kindly told Geordie Guy (one of the opponents of the filter) that he would no longer be required for the interview, the night before it was scheduled to happen. Conroy was allowed free reign to spew his BS. Wouldn't want an opposing view to be heard or have him be shown as the complete idiot he is.

The guy makes me sick.

it is beginning to seem to me Canada will be the last beacon of humanitarian freedom!
Not only is it perfectly safe to do what ever you want on the internet in Canada you are protected by their privacy laws!

In reality, no matter who we vote in, what they want will happen, even if ALL of australia said "No don't do it, we don't want it", the Gov will be like, "oh too bad soo sad..."

We need another major party, but not the greens or any ******** party like that, we need a People's party...but they would then suck too after a short period...

Lets face it, democracy and everything is stuffed...

I weep for the future :(

What are you guys on about.

This is a government of the people. Provided the people act and think in the way the Chairman Rudd and his gang want them to.

The sooner we vote these idiots out the better. And be ruthless about it.

Rather than discussion focusing on the issue of the proposed filter being the conversation piece, the same crowd of seized the opportunity to turn the thread into political discussion.

We managed a thread on mining taxes without to much to many political issues by sticking to the topic, but then again the usual suspects didn't get in for there political 2 bobs worth.

Before some of you cry foul, on AFF we dont discuss politics or religion (T/C). There are other sites that cater for these types of discussions.

Link to Site T/C some you need to read.

In my view this is an important subject if you want to have a take 2 on the thread without the politics go ahead, see how long some of you can contribute without getting into political discussion.
