Tuff decision.. Turbo XD or S/C xr8?

I have had two ideas of late and both are very tempting.

I have the oppotunity to buy my Aunties EF xr8 and very cheap at that. It has been well serviced and completely unflogged. She bought it new and it has only 110,000 kms on the clock. If i bought this i would turn it into a street/strip car.

Plans would be:
- Visit C.A.P.A and whack on a S/C
- Rebuild gearbox and get myself a stally
- Rebuild and strengthen diff.
- New computer, exhaust and tune

That pretty much all i would need to make me very happy.

I have also been toying with the idea of buying and xd and dropping in an AU motor and strapping on a turbo (from snort etc) (then possibly turning into straight LPG.)

Considering the current fuel prices, the XD is starting to seem like a better idea but the thought of a EF s/c xr8 is awesome.

I wont be build either of these for a while but i just thought i would get a few opinions and see what everyone else would do in my situation.

EF XR8 all the way. And dont make any plans for it until youve driven it as it is for a few months, believe me you will probably find it more than enough as it is with the exception of whacking on an exhaust if you wanted to.

Way better car than the XD in stock form.

And we all know a blown V8 is always better than a turbo 6.

Id put a big cleveland stroker in the XD and blow the other two into the weeds,both in tuffness and on the strip.

I have been a fan of boosted x series for a while. And looking through the "Show us ya xd/f/e" thread, there are some damn fine machines in their.

Makes me want it more. But then there is the xr8.. It speaks for itself.

I totally agree... oh and give me the EL XR8 when u get the XD hahahah. Nah mate ummm the EL XR8 is mighty tempting but cmon nothing beats a tuff XD... well maybe a tuff XB... Are u going to keep ya AU? i reckon u should just spend more on ya AU lol

Go for the EF. If nothing else you wont have the hassle of engineering certificates and getting it past the RTA. And mention the word 'turbo' to insurance companies and they freak out! especially an aftermarket fitting!.

Anyway a V8 sounds better

How hard would it be to put an AU engine in an XD i would imagine it would be pretty darn expensive and hard to do, would be cheaper and less time comsuming getting the EL XR8

Its definately looking like the xr8.. It will be cheaper in the long run, easier to insure and work with the RTA, newer, already the engine i want.. Might have to boost an xd later in life. And i will be keeping the AU. Just build up the choice i make in my grandmas shed.

If i get it done at mates rates, getting it in there and running wont be too bad. Not sure of the figures but not earth shatteringly expensive. But then come engineering and a turbo. Thats going to be the expensive bit.

I agree that it would help. But the only problem is she lives in Sydney and i live in wagga.. So i have to ait untill next time im up that way.

I reckon the EF is far better. I reckon the XE was nicer than the XD anyway.

Plus the EF has a nicer interior, and interiors are totally important to me.

Go the EF. Just for the comfort advantanges, they are nicer to drive. It will start off driving and wont turn into a massive build up where you may lose interest.

Cars that drive from the get go = win.

Well it would seem that the EF is the go then. I was really leading that way, just need a little push.

As soon as i posted this thread bt2f was right into me ripping me a new one about how v8 is the only way. So that really convinsed me (out of fear) that the EF would be best.

Time now to have a bit of a chat to the Auntie and see what price i can get it for. Whatever is it i am going to make sure i get it some how. I love the thought of a low km unflogged xr8.

Once a few things are sorted on it i'm starting on my XC which will run a stock 302 on gas for a cheap cruiser. I say do both supercharged EF and slowly do up the XD when the EF is finished as a cool cruiser.

im with you on this out:
I had a look at tick5.0 dyno figures with his blower on his 5.0 he got 190kw and about 560nms
I have more than that on my 351 clevo with straight gas N/A
No offence but to get decent power out of a windsor 5.0 you better have a massive bank account :dr_Evil:
The 6 with turbo in mild psi should be good for about 250rwkw
