What have people said to you about your car?

I moved in with some of my partners friends in a share house, and I told them how I usually keep myself preoccupied on the weekends in the garage.

They seemed interested, so I showed them around the car, and I got answers like:

"It has woodgrain in it, is it a Mercedes?"
"It's a nice colour, is that the colour that a Mercedes is"
"Does the paint get stains after you washed off the bird poo as well?"

So I took them for a drive in it, and gave it a rev at the lights, and I get:

"Are there two engines in this Mercedes, because its faster than my little blue car with the bird poo stains on it"

After that I had an epic facepalm

"Is that a Pilot???" Heard it so many times and I still get mad, Pilots where the Pommy post war car put together out of the parts bin.

The Galaxie:-
Lady beside me at the lights in a Mazda SUV "Can I jump in your car, its way cooler than mine?" ( I would have welcomed her but the missus was a couple of blocks behind)

"Isn't the 390 the truck motor??" - Ouch

When I took the daughter to school in about year 8
"Yo - Snoop dog"

My favourite comment on someone elses car - we were discussing big '70s cars without power steering and I yelled out to a mate asking if AMC Matador X had power steering. As soon as he said "yes" without thinking I asked if they made them in mens. (Ah well, the Galaxie's got it too!)

On the flip side, does anyone else have trouble telling people what they REALLY think about a friends / colleagues car? A guy at work just got a brand new 320d convertible w/options, must have been 80k... I checked it out and it really did nothing for me at all, either do the performance stats. Just pretty plain and uninspiring I thought.

I made a big fuss over it though and told him it was fantastic, as you do. In reality I was thinking of all the other cars one could purchase with 80k.

Same man. I dont want to be the one to wee on peoples highs. Each to there own. I try my best to put myself in there shoes and find what they see. But I will never diss anyones new/used cars that makes them smile. Particularly when its new to them.

Back when i had my blueprint XR6, I was walking to my car after voting at the last election and a bloke was looking in my window, i herd him tell his mrs that thats the radar detector is wanted. jokinly i said "Nice car" to which he replied "Oh yeh, she goes alright". His mrs then gave him a slap on the arm to tell him off, i just laughed and got in my car and drove off. The look on his face was priceless.

Last year at Gazzanats upon first entering the gates I was asked a few times if I was a support vehicle,made me and a few others have a good laugh.

No exhaust and external gate this year will fix that!

I had someone at the local petrol station come over to me when he noticed I was filling my Focus at the diesel pump, asked me how it drives and what I'm getting out of a tank, was surprised.

One of my mates who hated the look of EF/EL Falcons has warmed up to my EL Fairmont Ghia after sitting in it and checking it out up close.

Was at a servo near mildura today, and about 40 bikies from the Adelaide rebels MC pulled up as I stopped at the bowser.
A couple of them came over and started talking to me about how nice the colour was and the usual "is it an 8" stuff, then they got me to start it up, and one I then just went "holy ******* that sounds good!!"
Then they jumped on their Harley's and left again after they were all fuelled up haha
Mind you I was on my way home from picking the car up from the panel beaters

Just about every servo in town is like that. The Caltex in red cliffs almost always has a couple there when i cruise past

I had the police pull me up at kiama and told me he only pulled me up to tell me he likes my car.. I Didn't get put on the bag or anything, he just wanted a better look and gave me the usual nice comments about it.
My girlfriend said that, that was odd! :-S

Had a mate come over with a VE Clubbie, nice enough car but I asked him to clean up the oil puddle before he left...

I came out of a shopping centre once and a guy dressed up all in ferrari gear from racing ferrari shoes, to red ferrari shorts, a red ferrari polo shirt and a ferrari hat was just standing there staring at my ute.
I appraoched him and I said "its a beauty isnt it?"
he said in an italian accent "sure it! is it a special? I love the lines! the headlights and the wheels! are they a limited edition?"
As chuffed as I was I just replied no its a standard 1998 ford ute with a differant front end. I did not want to get into details and just left it at that.

They technically didnt say anything but i was driving along yesterday and i looked in the side mirror as i do...and saw somebody leaning out their window taking a photo of the stickers on the back of my truck.

Green P plater in a Hyundai with 5 people in it, even a couple of the passengers gave me thumbs up as they drove past!
