how good were some of those goals by portugal!! some of the crosses into the box were awesome. some of the best, if not the best so far.


as for the earlier discussion on aus v nz, i don't see how you can say 1 is playing better than the other when nz haven't played germany and ghana and aus haven't played italy or ?? serbia beat germany and mexico beat france. does that mean serbia are playing better than france?? how can you compare 2 different teams in 2 different draws!!??

the point gtxb67 is trying to make is that in the first year of competition for a team, there is very little expectation and pressure on them and a lot of the time they do extremely well. 4 yrs later, the expectations are a lot higher given the performance of the previous tournament so the pressure is higher. given how well the aussies did last world cup, most supporters/fans just assumed that we would automatically go through to the next round. fact is, you can't take anything for granted. anything can happen on the day. i'm amazed no one can see the comparisons being made and continue to carry on like its some sort of contest between nz and aus. both are playing well, 1 is playing beyond expectations, 1 is playing well short.

Yes mate I'm glad the Spainish finally showed some form - they maybe building up perfectly ? - next week is where it all counts as we know.
Hence why I think the Agries are building well also - not OTT but enough to dominate when it counts lapses here and there which gets you to re evaluate etc.

The poms may cry of what might have been going in level at halftime but I still don't think they would have beaten the young germans.
Argies doing the job again, thats the difference say compared to the poms - haven't taken 1game by the balls or half for that matter.....
Look at Ghana v's the US compared to their group games-finally showed they can take on the opposition and gain the result.

As for use of technology I'm still not for it - but I think 2linesman per sideline looking after half of the pitch would certainly help.

whats your concerns? every other major sport has video ref for scores. people claim it will slow the game down, but watching a clown run around with his jumper over his head after he scores wastes a bit of time also.

england got outplayed in every area by Germany if Germany got all their chances it would been so much more , i'm so annoyed that Lampad goal got dis-allowed open you eyes refs , don't know whats going to happen with england in the next 4 years since half of their squad won't be there, watched the other game aswell, i didn't care who won that match, and yet again the ref screwed it up yet again, allowing Tevez Goal to stand from a off-side position , in all my years watching these world Cup Tornments this has been the worst calls ever, i don't think it get better and fifa aren't doing anything about, WORST REFS EVER

My concerns ?
Firstly nothing wrong with celebrating a goal I would do it myself if I was at their level but we aussies don't warm up to that kind of emotion its unmanly yet whenever I see someone scoring in our top codes they get hugged/smothered etc so whats the diff time wasting nonetheless.
Look vid ref/umpires etc its just becoming a bit much imo of not accepting the benefit of the doubt or the element of human error......
Sports are being ruined by $$$/technology because we must change with the times ? as you say commercialism/betting/rule changes changing sports roots for the worse imo - sterile/white goods....
Stuff it - in the case of Lampards goal not identified, ok its a downer but if you or your team IS good enough by rights/determination you should be able to place yourself/team in the scoring position again. If not it wasn't meant to be accept it and refs errors. I can understand frustration losing 1-2 could have been 2-2 but thats life !
In this game no way were the poms going to beat the germans even walking in at halftime 1-2 down, they were exposed in the backline and halfs time and again they were never going to be in it.

As I mentioned having 2 linesman covering only half the pitch either side would help alleviate many of these missed calls but thats my opinion.

Ralliart lets see in the "oranje" do stand up and deliver but a thrashing ? we will see.

The ref decision was a discrace, and making a mockery of the so-called world game. 1 goal in soccer is worth gold and had germany and england been closer in score, that disallowed goal would of been a terrible human error to end a countrie's world cup campaign. Who knows, the poms going into half time 2-2 may of had a different mindset to fire up more for the 2nd half.

To not have 3rd replays or at least some more refs near the goal line in soccer where there decisions are so crucial is bloody silly in this day and age. As there is more pressure on teams as years go by due to the increased coverage those decisions need to be right, not just good enough by the closest ref. Might get rid of clowns doing the dives too

Meh Brazil through as expected 3zip...Robinho's goal was a pearla, Kaka the playmaker once again - they are strong and only just strating to put it on.
Then we have the oranje not a thrashing but by the 84min finally got the 2-1 win over the Slovaks....who should be damn happy with their efforts getting this far.
Oranje playing within themselves and far better having Robben on the pitch imo now the BIG test for them taking on Brazil next game !

Got to say the young germans are playing damn good,precision,speed and importantly without looking know where each other are.
Kept pressure on the argies 80mins of the game-for that first 10min start of the 2nd half argies tried like mad to get on the board but just wasn't going to happen.
