I feel the exact same way after extensively driving an Ecoboost Mondeo. The flat torque 'curve' just makes the car so drivable. Sounds great too (although not quite as smooth as the I6). Who needs a V6?

i don't find that a 'con' at all. i think its a massive positive. i think they should go one further and delete the 6cyl petrol as std equipment from the XT and G6. maybe keep it as an option but it wouldn't worry me if it wasn't even an option. this would once again offer a point of difference between the xr6 driveline and the other models.

the xr6 already sells well. ecoboost is about increasing sales, not just replacing existing ones. i think its a good move.

Dont think P platers would be legally able to drive the ecoboost in NSW anyway. I wonder if having ecoboost only models will restrict sales?
I suppose P platers dont account for many new car sales tho anyway.

Would insurance premiums increase with it being a turbo?
eg XT with ecoboost cost more to insure than XT n/a I6?

I have the same feeling and have said elsewhere that falcon could split in two and become EB 2.0 and 5.0 V8 covering everything needed.
The EB 2.0 offers the huge jump in economy needed to win a new generation of Falcon fans while the 5.0 would keep the existing ones..

perhaps in NA form. But Turbo I think can find a gap in there. Besides the venerable name that is 'XR6'.

I have a soft spot for the six but if the market swings away from it, I'm happy for Coyote to be there...
Funny how the NA V8 actually fits into the engine bay better and without a bonnet bulge either..

But back on topic,
I think a change of name for the EB Falcons to XT, Zetec and Titanium would fit better with the mostly Euro showroom..

Yeah... I also feel this coming. Even if one person does it. Said person would probably be ethnic though... have lots of money (plenty in gold chains), and drop it on 22's or something ridiculous. I'd love to see it... but detest it at the same time. "Awwww maayate izzz fulleh sick ayy?"

Coyote is surprisingly fuel efficient too. Time for Ford to slot in an 8 speeder like the 300C.

Its my opinion, not yours. I like the engine, not the spec. Guess you don't always get what you want!

I wasn't thinking that, it just opens a new opening into Falcon mods. May bring a different crowd, but it is exciting.

There are a few FGs on here on 22s, nothing new...

Ill be laughing when I see a FG Falcon on the front cover of HOT 4s magazine with a skimpy dressed young lady with complimentary moustache draped over the car.

A G6 Limited edition Ecoboost would be just up your ally wouldn't it? Cheaper fuel, cheaper rego, near as much power as your Fairmont Ghia, and better equiped.

I like your thinking. I'd just add the 2.7Litre V6 Turbo-diesel as a third engine option to cover all bases. Maybe that's an engine we could start manufacturing here?

Haha I used to get this when I had my WRX. I would highly consider a XR6 with ecoboost engine if I didn't have my XR50. Just the $150 a year in rego savings would be worth it.

Only cheap wine comes in 5L.

I just read a bulletin that P-platers will be allowed to drive an ecoboost in VIC because it has a Power to Mass of less then 130kW. Other states are suppose to be following. Good news for P-platers.

I can also see a cult following of P-platers wanting to 'mod' & 'tune' these while still on their P's too.

Depending on fuel type, I'd take a guess at 200-220rwkw. But it's purely speculation. Won't know till a tuner gets their hands on one.

It will be interesting to see if P platers find this car a better option over something else just as popular.

I definitely have to lock in a test drive of one of these.

It will be interesting to see if the rentacar companies will buy these over the XR6.

Just thought of another advantage, there is no upfront premium with ecoboost, meaning you don't pay extra like you do for a diesel or lpg engine. It is a no cost option.

I reckon 200 rwkw is pretty optimistic...
