You might be right, the last couple of frames in that loop look like its starting to head due east... possibly making landfall just north of Innisfail instead of south maybe.

Bloody unpredictable thing.

My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Nth QLD tonight. I'm not overly religious, but for those who are, I hope that whatever form your God takes, that you are kept safe and well.

God speed.

Just looked at the Radar, it must be passing pretty much now? The last wind gust I was able to see was 74km/h but I find it hard to believe. Good Luck.

My cousin bought a boat - a crew of 6 people - and have been sailing south from Cairns over the past week or so with Melbourne the end of the journey. They currently have the boat in Mackay marina and most of them will be staying in a hotel tonight. 2 are staying on the boat, but will make a dash for the hotel if need be.

Best of luck all.

I was caught in TC Justin back in 97 when I was 11. Justin was only a cat 2 by the time hit land but it caused a lot of flooding and devestation and damage, and I was terrified. I can only imagine what you guys are going through now, should Yasi continue at a Cat 5 once making landfall, none of us southeners could possibly comprehend what a Cat 5 would bring.

Stay Safe

Just saw the press conference of Anna Bligh saying the Electricity assets to the northern part of the state hasn't been tested in Cat 5 conditions. If they fail, it will be regarded as a catastrophic failure to the largest part of Northern QLD, and could take a very large proportion of time to repair to get power to areas not even directly affected by this event. No word on how long but I would no be surprised if it will be many weeks.

Someone said on Sky news that it took weeks for power to be reconnected for Larry, and Larry was cat 4.

They expect Yasi to go as far as Mt Isa as a cat 1.

far out just watching skynews, winds look insane, imagine if it gets to 300!

However they said wind speeds measured near the cyclone are currently 280km/h and climbing! Eye was last measured as approx 150km wide!

Skynews is having a few communication issues as you would expect. My thoughts are with all the people in FNQ at the moment.

I hope all people there are in safe zones. Whether that be in their homes or centres.

It is going to be a very long night for a lot of people.

Just spoken with my brother and he is sheltering in a Resort with his wife. They have a waterfront property at Airlie Beach. He was very calm and has resigned himself to face damage to his uncompleted home and said that you know the risk when you live up there. He was more upset about his boat but I said as long as they are both safe, I will be happy.

PS - the Resort let them take the dog with them!

My thoughts are with you guys tonight.

Just heard the Cyclone travel speed has slowed from 32kph to 25kph. Bit of a 2 edged sword with that according to Anna Bligh.

Good for lower surge tides, bad because the cyclone sticks around longer.

um no... she was saying the reports of 18meter waves is wrong.
The Bouy which reads it is being swamped and over turned... so the readings are wrong.

18m waves were false readings from Bouys that were 'swamped' 9m is correct though

Bligh said to disregard the 18 metre reading.
The waves are breaking over the device and reporting inaccurately.
