What I find strange is that the current Insignia is available here now as an Insignia right? Unusual to "delete" the model to only reintroduce it under another name

It does seem unusual, but according to all reports, the new model is a totally new car platform. It's both longer & wider, it's actually longer than the current Commodore.

I guess that was a kind of litmus test, to see if there was any market for that over the SS. I bet engineers and marketers are sweating bullets now.

They'd wanna bring in that 3.0-litre twin-turbo Cadillac engine and price it a bit better if they want to keep ANY market share from disgruntled V8 customers, maybe add bi-modal exhaust, manual gearbox.
